INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK DTC (DTCS RELATED TO ECD SYSTEM)

   
   

   1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

   2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

   3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

   4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC /

   5. Read the DTCs.

   GO TO DTC CHART (ECD SYSTEM)

2. CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY

   

   
   

   1. Check the input signal waveform.

      
      

      1. Remove the combination meter assembly with the connector still connected.

      2. Connect the oscilloscope to Terminal C13-35 and the body ground.

      3. Start the engine.

      4.

         Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.

         Item	Condition
         Tool setting	5 V/DIV., 10 msec./DIV.
         Vehicle condition	Engine idle speed

         OK
         The waveform is displayed as shown in the illustration

      As the vehicle speed increases, the cycle of the signal waveform narrows.

   
   

   NG

   REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY Click here

3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - ECM)

   
   

   1. Disconnect Connector C13 of the combination meter assembly.

   2. Disconnect Connector E7*1 or E17*2 of the ECM. *1: w/o Heater *2: w/ Heater

   3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance
      (w/o Heater)
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition C13-35 - E7-4 (TACH) Always Below 1 Ω C13-35 or E7-4 (TACH) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Standard resistance
      (w/ Heater)
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition C13-35 - E17-18 (TACH) Always Below 1 Ω C13-35 or E17-18 (TACH) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

   4. Reconnect the connector of the combination meter assembly.

   5. Reconnect the connector of the ECM.

   REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
