METER / GAUGE SYSTEM (for 1KD-FTV) Fuel Gauge Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The combination meter assembly controls the fuel receiver gauge in accordance with the resistance of the fuel sender gauge that varies depending on the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK FUEL SENDER GAUGE CIRCUIT

    1. Disconnect Connector F10 of the fuel sender gauge assembly.

    2. Check the meter indicator condition.

      Standard (w/ Heater)
      Wire Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F10-2 - F10-3 Ignition switch ON Fuel gauge indicates "F" or more (Combination meter)
      Standard (w/o Heater)
      Wire Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F10-1 - F10-2 Ignition switch ON Fuel gauge indicates "F" or more (Combination meter)
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage (w/ Heater)
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F10-3 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4 to 7 V
      Standard voltage (w/o Heater)
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F10-2 - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4 to 7 V
    4. Reconnect the connector of the fuel sender gauge assembly.

  2. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE

    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly.

    2. Check that the float position is between "E" and "F" and measure resistance between Terminals 2 and 3 *1 or 1 and 2 *2 of connector.

      *1: w/ Heater

      *2: w/o Heater

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (w/ Heater)

      Float level is F

      F10-2 - F10-3 Float level is 1/2 32.5 Ω
      F10-2 - F10-3

      3.0 +/- 0.6 Ω

    4. Reinstall the fuel sender gauge assembly.

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY)

    1. Disconnect Connector C13 of the combination meter assembly.

    2. Disconnect Connector F10 of the fuel sender gauge assembly.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (w/ Heater)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified condition
      C13-26 - F10-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      C13-31 - F10-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      F10-2 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C13-26 or F10-3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Standard resistance (w/o Heater)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified condition
      C13-26 - F10-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      C13-31 - F10-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      F10-1 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C13-26 or F10-2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the connector of the combination meter assembly.

    5. Reconnect the connector of the fuel sender gauge assembly.
