AIRBAG SYSTEM SRS Warning Light Remains ON

DESCRIPTION

The SRS warning light is located in the combination meter assembly. When the SRS is normal, the SRS warning light comes on for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned from off to ON, and then goes off automatically. If there is a malfunction in the SRS, the SRS warning light comes on to inform the driver. When Terminals TC and CG of the DLC3 are connected, the DTCs are indicated through SRS warning light blinking patterns. If the airbag ECU assembly detects a source voltage drop, the airbag ECU assembly turns the SRS warning light on. However, this trouble is not recorded in the memory of the airbag ECU assembly and the SRS warning light goes off automatically after the source voltage has returned to normal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

  • Once the cause of the trouble has been eliminated, clear the DTCs which were stored during troubleshooting and then check for DTCs to confirm whether the system is sound Click here.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE

    1. Measure the voltage of the battery.

      Standard Voltage
      11 to 14 V

    NG
    OK
  2. CHECK CONNECTORS

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Check that Connector A23 is properly connected to the airbag ECU assembly.

      OK
The connector is properly connected and secured.

      Tech Tips

After confirming that the connector is secured in the correct position, proceed to the next check.

    4. Disconnect the connector from the airbag ECU assembly.

    5. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

      OK
      The terminals are not damaged.

    4. Operate electrical components such as the defogger, the wipers, the headlights, and the heater blower, which consume a large amount of electrical power.

    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage
Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A23-21 (IG2) - A23-25 (E1) Ignition switch ON 8 to 16 V
      A23-21 (IG2) - A23-26 (E2) Ignition switch ON 8 to 16 V
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A23-25 (E1) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      A23-26 (E2) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG
    OK
  4. CHECK CONNECTORS

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

    3. Check that Connectors C13 and C14 are properly connected to the combination meter assembly.

      OK
      The connectors are properly connected.

      Tech Tips

After confirming that the connectors are secured in the correct positions, proceed to the next check.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the combination meter assembly.

    5. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

      OK
      The terminals are not damaged.
