STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION


  1. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY

    A01KGTVE01

    1. Install the 4 bolts and steering column assembly.

      *A Non-Tilt Steering Column
      *B Tilt Steering Column
      Torque:
      11.5 N*m  { 117 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf }
    2. A01KGWE

      Install the 2 bolts and clamp bracket.

  2. CONNECT STEERING MAIN SHAFT ASSEMBLY (RIGID FRONT SUSPENSION)

    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft and power steering gear assembly.

    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque:
      35 N*m  { 357 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf }
    3. A01KFT2

      Install the 4 bolts and steering column tube lower.

      Torque:
      8.0 N*m  { 82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf }

  3. CONNECT STEERING SLIDING W/COUPLING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (INDEPENDENT FRONT SUSPENSION)

    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering sliding w/coupling yoke and the bevel gear assembly.

    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque:
      35 N*m  { 357 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf }
    3. A01KFT2

      Install the steering column tube lower with the 4 bolts.

      Torque:
      8.0 N*m  { 82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf }

  4. INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    1. Install the turn signal switch assembly with 4 screws.

      Note

      In the model without SRS airbag, lightly coat the horn contact with the grease.

    2. Connect the connectors and wire harness clamps.

  5. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  6. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (W/ SRS AIRBAG)

  7. CENTER SPIRAL CABLE (W/ SRS AIRBAG)


    1. Check that the ignition switch is OFF.

    2. Check that the battery negative terminal is disconnected.

      Note

      Do not start the operation for 90 seconds after removing the terminal.

      Turn the cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn.

      Tech Tips

      The cable will rotate about 3.5 turns to either left or right of the center.

      Then rotate the cable clockwise about 3.5 turns to align the marks.

  8. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER LWR


    1. Install the steering column cover LWR with the clip and 2 screws.

  9. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER UPR


    1. Install the steering column cover UPR with the 2 screws.

  10. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY


    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly with the one on the steering main shaft.

    2. Install the steering wheel set nut.

      Torque:
      50 N*m  { 510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf }

  11. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY (W/O SRS AIRBAG)

    1. Non-Tilt Steering Column:


      1. Connect the horn button connector.

      2. Install the 2 screws and horn button assembly.

    2. Tilt Column Steering:


      1. Connect the horn button connector.

      2. Install the bolt and horn button assembly.

        Torque:
        2.0 N*m  { 20 kgf*cm, 18 in.*lbf }
