STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY DISASSEMBLY


  1. REMOVE STEERING MAIN SHAFT ASSEMBLY

    1. Using a snap ring expander, remove the steering main shaft snap ring (outer side).

    2. Pull out the steering main shaft and steering intermediate shaft from the steering column tube upper.

      Using a snap ring expander, remove the steering main shaft snap ring (inner side).

    4. Install the intermediate shaft from the steering main shaft assembly.

  2. INSPECT BEARING BLOCK

    1. Check the bearing block rotation conditions of the intermediate shaft and check for abnormal noise.

      If necessary, replace bearing block.

    2. Coat the bearing with molybdenum disulfide lithium base grease.

  3. REMOVE BEARING BLOCK

    1. Remove the steering column No. 1 ring.

    2. Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring from the steering main shaft.

    3. Remove the bearing block.

  4. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING W/COUPLING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (INDEPENDENT FRONT SUSPENSION)

    1. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 washers and steering sliding w/coupling yoke sub-assembly.

  5. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER W/SWITCH BRACKET ASSEMBLY


    1. Using a centering punch, mark the center of the tapered-head bolt.

    2. Using a 3 - 4 mm (0.12 - 0.16 in.) drill, drill into the bolt.

      *1 Screw Extractor

      Using a screw extractor, remove the bolt.

    4. Remove the 2 bolts and column upper bracket from the column upper tube.

  6. INSPECT STEERING COLUMN UPPER W/SWITCH BRACKET ASSEMBLY

    1. Check the bearing rotation condition and check for abnormal noise.

      If the bearing is worn or damaged, replace the column upper bracket.

    2. Coat the bearing with molybdenum disulfide lithium base grease.

  7. REMOVE IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY

    1. Turn the ignition key to the ACC position.

    2. Using a screwdriver, push down the stop pin of the cylinder, and pull out the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly.

  8. REMOVE IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the key unlock warning switch by pushing the claw, as shown in the illustration.

    2. Remove the screw and ignition switch.
