STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY REASSEMBLY


  1. INSTALL IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the ignition or starter switch assembly with the screw.

    2. Install the key unlock warning switch.

  2. INSTALL IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly.

      Tech Tips

      Make sure the key is at the ACC position.

  3. INSPECT STEERING LOCK OPERATION


    1. Check that the steering lock mechanism is activated when removing the key.

    2. Check that the steering lock mechanism is deactivated when inserting the key and turning to ACC position.

  4. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN UPPER W/SWITCH BRACKET ASSEMBLY

    1. Install the steering column upper w/switch bracket assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      7.0 N*m  { 71 kgf*cm, 62 in.*lbf }

    2. Install a new tapered-head bolt and tighten the tapered- head bolt until the bolt head break off.

  5. INSTALL STEERING SLIDING W/COUPLING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Install the steering sliding w/coupling yoke sub-assembly to the intermediate shaft with the 2 bolts, nuts and washers.

      Torque:
      24.5 N*m  { 250 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf }

  6. INSTALL BEARING BLOCK

    A01KFO5

    1. Install the bearing block.

    2. Using a snap ring expander, install a new shaft ring to the steering main shaft assembly.

    3. Install the steering column No. 1 ring to the bearing block.

      Note


      • Do not expand the shaft ring excessively.

      • Position the shaft ring into the groove securely.

  7. INSTALL STEERING MAIN SHAFT ASSEMBLY

    1. Apply chassis grease to the oil seal of the intermediate shaft and spline of the steering main shaft assembly.

      Align the matchmarks on the intermediate shaft and the steering main shaft assembly.

    3. Check that the intermediate shaft can slide smoothly.

    4. A01KHCV

      Using a snap ring expander, install a new steering main shaft snap ring (inner side) to the steering main shaft assembly.

      Note


      • Do not damage the steering main shaft assembly.

      • Do not expand the steering main shaft snap ring excessively.

      • Position the steering main shaft snap ring into the groove securely.

    5. Install the steering main shaft assembly to the steering column upper tube.

      Note

      Do not damage the steering column tube cover.

    6. A01KHIU

      Using a snap ring expander, install a new steering main shaft snap ring (out side) to the steering main shaft assembly.

      Note


      • Do not damage the steering main shaft assembly.

      • Do not expand the steering main shaft snap ring excessively.

      • Position the steering main shaft snap ring into the groove securely.

  8. INSTALL MAIN SHAFT LOWER DUST COVER

    1. Install the adhesive tape, as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Do not attach foreign objects on the contact surface.

    2. Install the main shaft lower dust cover to the steering column tube lower.

  9. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN TUBE LOWER


    1. Install the steering column tube lower to the steering column tube cover.

  10. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN TUBE COVER

    1. Install steering column tube cover.

      Note

      Place the arrow mark facing forward in the vehicle.
