PARKING BRAKE CABLE (for Center Parking Brake) INSTALLATION


  1. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY NO.2


    1. Connect the parking brake cable No.2 and No.1.

    2. Install the collar and dust seal to the cable No.2.

    3. Disconnect the cable No.2 to the parking brake shoe back plate with E-ring.

    4. Install the bolt and clamp to the parking brake shoe back plate.

      Torque:
      13.3 N*m  { 136 kgf*cm, 11 ft.*lbf }

    5. Install the clamp and clips.

  2. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE

    1. Apply a light coat of high temperature grease to the contacting part of the backing plate and brake shoe.

    2. Using pliers, connect the parking brake cable to the parking brake shoe lever.

      Using SST, install the shoe hold-down springs and pins.

  3. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING

    1. Using SST, install the shoe return tension spring.

  4. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING

    1. Installation the plate washer.

    2. Using SST, install the right side return spring, then install the left side return spring.

  5. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION

  6. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY

  7. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY NO.1


    1. Connect the parking brake cable No.1 and No.2.

    2. A01KH6B

      Connect the parking brake cable No.1 to the floor panel with 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      18 N*m  { 185 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf }

    3. Install clamp and clips.

  8. CONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transmission)

  9. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHIFT (for Manual Transmission)

  10. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SELECT (for Manual Transmission)

  11. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE LEVER ASSEMBLY


    1. Connect the parking brake cable No.1 to the parking brake lever.

    2. Install the 2 bolts and parking brake lever.

      Torque:
      18 N*m  { 185 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf }

    3. Connect the parking brake switch connector.

  12. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE


    1. Turn the shoe adjuster counterclockwise until the brake shoes are fully expanded.

      Turn the shoe adjuster clockwise 1 notch.

    3. With the parking brake pulled its full distance, check that the drum is locked.

    4. Release the parking brake lever and ensure that the parking brake is not dragging.

      Tech Tips

      If it is dragging, turn the shoe adjuster clockwise another notch.

  13. INSPECT AND ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL


    1. Pull the parking brake lever all the way up, and count the number of clicks at 250 N (25kgf, 55 lbf).

      Center parking brake
      6 - 8 clicks
      Rear wheel parking brake
      4 - 6 clicks

    2. If incorrect, adjust the parking brake.

  14. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE HOLE COVER

  15. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER HOLE COVER

  16. INSTALL SHIFTING HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  17. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY

  18. TIGHTEN OUTPUT SHAFT NUT


    1. Using a chisel and a hammer, stake the nut.
