MEASURE BRAKE DRUM INSIDE DIAMETER
Using brake drum gauge or equivalent, measure the inside diameter of the drum.
Maximum inside diameter
---
297.0 mm (11.693 in.)
Standard inside diameter
---
295.0 mm (11.614 in.)
If the drum is scored or worn, the brake drum may be lathed to the maximum inside diameter.
MEASURE REAR DRUM BRAKE SHOE LINING THICKNESS
Using a ruler, measure the thickness of the shoe lining.
Standard thickness
---
6.5 mm (0.256 in.)
Minimum thickness
---
1.0 mm (0.039in.)
If the lining thickness is at the minimum thickness or less, or if there is severe, uneven wear, replace the brake shoe.
INSPECT BRAKE DRUM AND REAR DRUM BRAKE SHOE LINING FOR PROPER CONTACT
Apply chalk to the inside surface of the drum, then grind drum to fit the brake shoe lining.
If the contact between the drum and the shoe lining is improper, repair it with a brake shoe grinder or replace the brake shoe assembly.
INSPECT BRAKE WHEEL CYLINDER
Check the cylinder bore and piston for rust or scoring.
