ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:C0200/31, C0205/32, C1235/35, C1236/36

DTC Code DTC Name
C0200/31 Front Speed Sensor RH Circuit
C0205/32 Front Speed Sensor LH Circuit
C1235/35 Foreign Object is Attached on Tip of Front Speed Sensor RH
C1236/36 Foreign Object is Attached on Tip of Front Speed Sensor LH

DESCRIPTION

The speed sensor detects wheel speed and sends the appropriate signals to the ECU. These signals are used for control of the ABS control systems. Each of the front and rear rotors has 48 serrations.

When the rotors rotate, the magnetic field emitted by the permanent magnet in the speed sensor generates an AC voltage. Since the frequency of this AC voltage changes in direct proportion to the speed of the rotor, the frequency is used by the ECU to detect the speed of each wheel.

DTC No. DTC Detecting Condition Trouble Area

C0200/31

C0205/32

Detection of any of conditions 1. through 3.:

  1. When the vehicle speed is 10km/h (6 mph) or more and open or short circuit if the signal circuit of each vehicle speed sensor have been continued for 15 seconds or more.

  2. When the momentary interruption of each vehicle speed sensor signal has been occurred more than 7 times.

  3. When open circuit condition of the vehicle speed sensor signal circuit has been continued for more than 0.5 seconds.

  • Right front and left front speed sensor

  • Each speed sensor circuit

  • Speed sensor rotor

  • Sensor installation

C1235/35

C1236/36

When the vehicle speed is higher than 20 km/h (12 mph) and noise on the abnormal wheel sensor signal continues for 5 seconds or more.
  • Right front and left front speed sensor

  • Speed sensor rotor

Tech Tips

DTC No. C0200/31 and C1235/35 is the right front speed sensor.

DTC No. C0205/32 and C1236/36 is the left front speed sensor.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

Start the inspection from step 1 in case of using intelligent tester and start from step 2 in case of not using intelligent tester.

PROCEDURE

  1. READ VALUE OF FRONT SPEED SENSOR

    1. Select the DATALIST mode on the intelligent tester.

    2. Check that there is no difference between the speed value output from the speed sensor displayed by the intelligent tester and the speed value displayed by the speedometer when driving the vehicle.

      OK
There is almost no difference from the displayed speed value.

      Tech Tips

There is tolerance of +/- 10% in the speedometer indication.

    OK
    NG
  2. INSPECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR

    1. Disconnect the speed sensor connector.

    2. A01KEPAE01

Measure resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of the speed sensor connector.

      Resistance
      0.92 - 1.22 kΩ
    3. Measure resistance between each of terminals 1 and 2 of speed sensor connector and body ground.

      Resistance
      10 MΩ or higher

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FRONT SPEED SENSOR - SKID CONTROL ECU)

    1. Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between each speed sensor and skid control ECU connector Click here.

    NG
    OK
  4. INSPECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION

      *a OK
      *b NG

      Check the speed sensor installation.

      OK
The installation bolt is tightened properly and there is no clearance between the sensor and front steering knuckle.

  5. INSPECT SPEED SENSOR AND SENSOR ROTOR SERRATIONS

    A01KEFIE01

    (REFERENCE) INSPECTION USING OSCILLOSCOPE

    1. Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals FR+ - FR- and FL+ - FL- of the skid control ECU.

    2. Drive the vehicle at about 30 km/h (19 mph), and check the signal waveform.

      Tech Tips

      • As the vehicle speed (wheel revolution speed) increases, a cycle of the waveform becomes shorter and the fluctuation in the output voltage becomes greater.

      • When noise is identified in the waveform on the oscilloscope, error signals are generated due to the speed sensor rotor's scratches, looseness or foreign matter deposited on it.

    OK
    NG
  6. INSPECT SPEED SENSOR ROTOR AND SENSOR TIP

    1. Remove the front speed sensor Click here.

    2. Check the sensor tip.

      OK
No scratches or foreign objects on the sensor tip.

      Note

Check the speed sensor signal last Click here.

    NG
    OK
  7. INSPECT SPEED SENSOR ROTOR

    1. A01KG38

Remove the front speed sensor rotor Click here.

    2. Check the sensor rotor serrations.

      OK
No scratches, missing teeth or foreign objects.

      Tech Tips

If foreign matter is attached, remove it and after reassembling, check the output waveform.
