INSTALL STEERING KNUCKLE LH
Install a new steering knuckle king pin dust seal.
Install the steering knuckle.
Place the shim and baring.
Using a plastic hammer, tap in the king pin.
Tech Tips
Apply MP grease to the bushing, I-beam and bearing inside.
Using a jack, raise the steering knuckle.
Measure the clearance between the I-beam and knuckle.
| Thrust clearance |
|---|
| 0.10 mm (0.0039 in.) or less |
Select the shim.
| Thickness mm (in.) | Thickness mm (in.) |
|---|---|
| 0.05 (0.0020) | 0.25 (0.0098) |
| 0.10 (0.0039) | - |
Remove the jack.
Using a brass bar and a hammer, remove the king pin, shim and bearing.
Place the selected shim and bearing.
Position the hole downward and the notched position of the king pin forward he hole side.
Using a plastic hammer, tap in the king pin until the stopper pin hole align.
Drive in the king pin, stopper and install the nut.
Make sure that the steering knuckle turns smoothly.
INSTALL STEERING KNUCKLE PLUG
Using a hexagon wrench, install the steering knuckle plug.
INSTALL STEERING KNUCKLE PLUG
Install the steering knuckle plug.

INSTALL STEERING KNUCKLE ARM LH
INSTALL DISC BRAKE DUST COVER FRONT LH
Clean the spindle part of the steering knuckle and apply a thin coating MP grease.
Install the front axle hub with brake disc on the steering knuckle.
Note
Do not damage the oil seal.
Using a SST, install the inner race of the outer front axle hub bearing and the axle hub claw washer.
Note
When the inner race of the outer front axle hub bearing cannot be inserted by hand, use a SST and a hammer and drive it in by light hitting.
Fill a sufficient quantity of MP grease into the gap between the bearing and the axle hub.

INSTALL STEERING KNUCKLE LH NUT
INSPECT PRELOAD
Move the front axle hub 2 or 3 times over the full range to let the bearing settle down.
Loosen the lock nut so far that it can be turned with the fingers (about 60°).
Hit the spindle tip lightly with a plastic hammer.
Using a socket wrench (35 mm) and spring tension gauge and tighten the nut to with in the range of the reference value for the starting torque.
| Preload (at starting) |
|---|
| 4.9 to 20 N (0.5 to 2.0 kgf, 1.1 to 4.2 lbf) |
Note
When the reference value is off, vary the amount by which the lock nut is returned and adjust again.
Confirm smooth rotation of the front axle hub.
INSPECT BEARING BACKLASH
Check the bearing for play in axial direction near the inner circumference of the front axle hub (flange part).
| Maximum |
|---|
| 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.) |
