FRONT AXLE HUB (for Rigid Type) INSTALLATION

Tech Tips

Replace the RH side by the same procedures with the LH side.

  1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE INNER BEARING TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

    1. A01KEJBE01

Using SST and a press, install a new outer race of the inner front axle hub bearing until it comes into contact with the mounting surface.

      SST
      09950-60020   ( 09951-00710 )
      09950-70010   ( 09951-07150 )

      Note

      • Press the outer race slowly and uniformly.

      • Do not damage the outer race.

  2. INSTALL BEARING, TAPERED ROLLER

    1. A01KGLEE01

Using SST and a press to press-fit a new outer race of the outer front axle hub bearing until comes into contact with the mounting surface.

      SST
      09950-60010   ( 09951-00560 )
      09950-70010   ( 09951-07100 )

      Note

      • Press the outer race slowly and uniformly.

      • Do not damage the outer race.

  3. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB LH OIL SEAL

    *a Grease Filling

    1. Fill bearing grease into the places shown in the figure.

      Note

Mixing of different types of grease and entry of dust, etc. into the grease should be avoided, as this cam cause grease deterioration or seizure.

    2. Apply a sufficient quantity of MP grease to the roller parts of the axle hub bearing.

    3. Install the inner race of the inner front axle hub bearing.

    4. Fill a sufficient quantity of MP grease into the gap between the bearing and the oil seal.

    5. Apply a thin coating of MP grease to the oil seal lip.

    6. A01KF4QE01

Using SST and a press, install a new hub oil seal to the end surface.

      SST
      09950-60020   ( 09951-00750 )
      09950-70010   ( 09951-07100 )

      Note

      • Press the oil seal slowly.

      • Do not damage the oil seal.

  4. INSTALL FRONT DISC

      *a Matchmark

Align the matchmarks of the brake disc and the front axle hub, install them with the 6 bolts.

      Torque:
      63 N*m  { 642 kgf*cm, 46 ft.*lbf }

      Note

Clean the mounting surfaces of brake disc and axle hub before the installation.

  5. INSTALL AXLE HUB W/DISC

    A01KGZ4

    1. Clean the spindle part of the steering knuckle and apply a thin coating MP grease.

    2. Install the front axle hub with brake disc on the steering knuckle.

      Note

Do not damage the oil seal.

    3. A01KGMQE01

Using a SST, install the inner race of the outer front axle hub bearing and the axle hub claw washer.

      SST
      09309-37010

      Note

When the inner race of the outer front axle hub bearing cannot be inserted by hand, use a SST and a hammer and drive it in by light hitting.

    4. Fill a sufficient quantity of MP grease into the gap between the bearing and the axle hub.

  6. INSTALL STEERING KNUCKLE LH NUT

    1. A01KFYY

Using a socket wrench, tighten the bearing lock nut while turning the axle hub.

      Torque:
      24 to 29 N*m  { 245 to 296 kgf*cm, 18 to 21 ft.*lbf }
  7. INSPECT PRELOAD

    1. Move the front axle hub 2 or 3 times over the full range to let the bearing settle down.

    2. Loosen the lock nut so far that it can be turned with the fingers (about 60°).

    3. Hit the spindle tip lightly with a plastic hammer.

    4. A01KH4X

Using a socket wrench (35 mm) and spring tension gauge and tighten the nut to with in the range of the reference value for the starting torque.

      Preload (at starting)
      4.9 to 20 N (0.5 to 2.0 kgf, 1.1 to 4.2 lbf)

      Note

When the reference value is off, vary the amount by which the lock nut is returned and adjust again.

    5. Confirm smooth rotation of the front axle hub.

  8. INSPECT AXLE HUB AXIAL PLAY

    1. A01KFZO

Check the bearing for play in axial direction near the inner circumference of the front axle hub (flange part).

      Maximum
      0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)
  9. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH

  10. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP LH

    1. Install a lock cap and secure it with a new cotter pin.

      Note

Perform hole matching for the cotter pin after tightening of the castle nut in the direction for minimum further tightening.

    2. Fill the front hub grease cap parts shown in the figure with MP grease.

    3. A01KI5D

Using a screwdriver and a hammer to install the front hub grease cap.

  11. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL

    Torque:
    14 inch tire
    135 N*m  { 1377 kgf*cm, 100 ft.*lbf }
    15 inch tire
    170 N*m  { 1734 kgf*cm, 125 ft.*lbf }
