FRONT AXLE HUB (for Rigid Type) REMOVAL

Tech Tips

Replace the RH side by the same procedures with the LH side.


  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

  2. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP LH

      Using a screwdriver and a hammer, remove the front hub grease cap by tapping the cap circumference.

      Note

      In case of notable deformation, replace by a new part.

      Tech Tips

      The fitting part of the grease cap has 2 cutouts.

  3. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Remove the 3 bolts and the brake caliper assembly LH from the steering knuckle.

    2. Suspend the brake caliper assembly with wire or similar.

      Note

      Do not apply excessive force to the flexible hose.

  4. REMOVE STEERING KNUCKLE LH NUT

    1. Remove the cotter pin and the lock cap.

    2. Use a socket wench to remove the lock nut.

  5. REMOVE AXLE HUB W/DISC

      Remove the front axle hub claw washer, the inner race of the outer front axle hub bearing and the front axle hub with disc brake from the steering knuckle.

      Note

      Do not drop the bearing.

  6. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB LH OIL SEAL

    1. Fix the front axle hub with front disc with a vise between soft jaws and rags.

    2. Using SST, remove the front axle hub oil seal.

    3. Remove the inner race of the inner front axle hub bearing.

  7. REMOVE FRONT AXLE INNER BEARING TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

    1. Remove the grease from inside the axle hub.

    2. Using a brass bar and hammer, remove the outer race of the inner front axle hub bearing.

      Note


      • Apply the brass bar from the notch of the axle hub.

      • Do not damage the front disc.

      • Remove the bearing outer race only at the time of bearing exchange.

  8. REMOVE BEARING, TAPERED ROLLER

      Using a brass bar and hammer, remove the outer race of the outer axle hub bearing.

  9. REMOVE FRONT DISC


    1. Fix the front disc with a vise between soft jaws and rags.

      Apply matchmarks to the front disc and the front axle hub.

    3. Remove the 6 bolts and remove the front axle hub from the front disc.
