FRONT AXLE HUB (for Independent Type) INSTALLATION

Replace the RH side by the same procedures with the LH side.


  1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE INNER BEARING TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

      Using SST and a press, install a new front axle inner bearing tapered roller bearing outer race.

  2. INSTALL FRONT AXLE OUTER BEARING TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

      Using SST and a press, install a new front axle outer bearing tapered roller bearing outer race.

  3. INSTALL FRONT DISC

      Align the matchmarks and install the front axle hub to the front disc with the 6 bolts.

      Torque:
      61 N*m  { 622 kgf*cm, 45 ft.*lbf }

      *1 Grease

      Fill bearing grease into the places shown in the figure.

      Note

      Mixing of different types of grease and entry of dust, etc. into the grease should be avoided, as this can cause grease deterioration or seizure.

  4. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB LH OIL SEAL


    1. Apply a sufficient quantity of MP grease to the roller parts of the axle hub bearing.

    2. Install the inner race of the inner front axle hub bearing.

    3. Fill a sufficient quantity of MP grease into the gap between the bearing and the oil seal.

    4. Apply a thin coating of MP grease to the oil seal lip.

      Using SST and a hammer, install a new hub oil seal to the end surface.

      Note


      • Press the oil seal slowly.

      • Do not damage the oil seal.

  5. INSTALL AXLE HUB W/DISC


    1. Clean the spindle part of the steering knuckle and apply a thin coating MP grease.

    2. Install the front axle hub with brake disc on the steering knuckle.

      Note

      Do not damage the oil seal.

    3. Install the front axle outer bearing roller bearing and front axle hub claw washer LH.

  6. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL ADJUSTING NUT LH

      Using SST, tighten the bearing lock nut while turning the axle hub.

      59 N*m  { 600 kgf*cm, 44 ft.*lbf }

  7. ADJUST PRELOAD

    1. Move the front axle hub 2 or 3 times over the full range to let the bearing settle down.

    2. Loosen the lock nut so far that it can be turned with the fingers (about 60°).

    3. Using SST, tighten the bearing lock nut.

      24 N*m  { 245 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf }

    4. Using SST, install a new adjusting lock washer LH and adjusting nut LH.

      47 N*m  { 480 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf }

    5. Using spring tension gauge, measure the range of the reference value for the staring torque.

      Preload (at starting)
      Rear single tire
      18.6 to 47.2 N (1.90 to 4.81 kgf, 4.18 to 10.61 lbf)
      Rear double tire
      14.1 to 35.8 N (1.44 to 3.65 kgf, 3.17 to 8.05 lbf)

      Note

      When the reference value is off, vary the amount by which the lock nut is returned and adjust again.

    6. Confirm smooth rotation of the front axle hub.

      Secure the adjusting nut and lock nut by bending one of the lock washer teeth inward and the other lock washer teeth outward.

  8. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP LH


    1. Install a new outer shaft flange gasket LH and hub grease cap LH with the 6 bolts.

      Torque:
      11.5 N*m  { 117 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf }

  9. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH

    Torque:
    147 N*m  { 1500 kgf*cm, 108 ft.*lbf }

  10. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL

    Torque:
    Rear single tire
    135 N*m  { 1377 kgf*cm, 100 ft.*lbf }
    Rear double tire
    170 N*m  { 734 kgf*cm, 125 ft.*lbf }
