DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL (for Ring Gear Size 10.5 inch) REPLACEMENT


  1. SEPARATE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY REAR

      Place matchmarks on the propeller shaft flange and differential flange.

    2. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and 4 washers.

    3. Suspend the propeller shaft assembly with wire or similar.

  2. REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION NUT

      Using a chisel and a hammer, loosen the staked part of the nut.

      Using SST to hold the flange, remove the nut.

  3. REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE SUB-ASSEMBLY REAR

      Using SST, remove the rear drive pinion companion flange sub-assembly.

  4. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL

      Using SST, remove the rear differential carrier oil seal.

  5. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL

      Using SST and a hammer, install a new oil seal.

      Oil seal drive depth
      0.45 mm (0.0177 in.)

    2. Coat the MP grease to the oil seal lip.

  6. INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE SUB-ASSEMBLY REAR

      Using SST, install the rear drive pinion companion flange on the drive pinion.

    2. Coat the threads of a new nut with hypoid gear oil LSD.

    3. Coat the threads of a new rear drive pinion nut with hypoid gear oil LSD.

      Coat the threads of a new rear drive pinion nut with hypoid gear oil LSD.

      Torque:
      275 to 333 N*m  { 2804 to 3396 kgf*cm, 203 to 246 ft.*lbf }

  7. INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION PRELOAD

      Using a torque wrench, measure the preload.

      Torque:
      Preload
      New bearing
      2.00 to 5.39 N*m  { 20 to 55 kgf*cm, 18 to 48 in.*lbf }
      Reuse bearing
      1.00 to 2.76 N*m  { 10 to 28 kgf*cm, 8.9 to 24 in.*lbf }

  8. INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION NUT

      Using a chisel and hammer, stake the drive pinion nut.

  9. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY REAR

      Align the matchmarks on the propeller shaft differential flange with the 4 bolts, 4 washers and 4 nuts.

      Torque:
      88.2 N*m  { 900 kgf*cm, 65 ft.*lbf }
