  1. SEPARATE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY REAR

      Place matchmarks on the propeller shaft flange and differential flange.

    2. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and 4 washers.

    3. Suspend the propeller shaft assembly with wire or similar.

  2. REMOVE DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE REAR NUT

      Using a chisel and a hammer, loosen the staked part of the nut.

      Using SST to hold the flange, remove the nut.

    1. Using SST, remove the rear drive pinion companion flange sub-assembly.

  4. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL

    1. Using SST, remove the rear differential carrier oil seal.

  5. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION OIL SLINGER

  6. REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

    1. Using SST, remove tapered roller bearing FR.

    2. A01KF5XE01

      Using SST, remove the bearing outer race.

      SST

      Note

      Do not scratch the taper surface of the outer race.

  7. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION BEARING SPACER

  8. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION BEARING SPACER


    1. Install a new rear differential drive pinion bearing spacer.

  9. INSTALL REAR DRIVE PINION FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

      Using SST and a hammer, install the bearing outer race.

    2. Install the tapered roller bearing.

    The tap-in depth for the rear differential carrier oil seal differs between type A and type B, based on the shape of the dust deflector portion of the rear drive pinion companion flange sub-assembly rear.

      Using SST and a hammer, install a new oil seal.

      0.05 to 0.95 mm (0.002 to 0.037in.)
      Type B
      1.55 to 2.45 mm (0.062 to 0.096 in.)

    2. Coat the MP grease to the oil seal lip.

  12. REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE SUB-ASSEMBLY REAR

      Using SST, install the rear drive pinion companion flange on the drive pinion.

    2. Coat the threads of a new nut with hypoid gear oil LSD.

    3. Coat the threads of a new rear drive pinion nut with hypoid gear oil LSD.

      Using SST to hold the flange, torque the nut.

      245 to 441 N*m  { 2500 to 4500 kgf*cm, 181 to 326 ft.*lbf }

  13. INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION PRELOAD

      Using a torque wrench, measure the preload.

      Torque:
      New bearing
      1.3 to 1.8 N*m  { 13 to 19 kgf*cm, 11.3 to 16.4 in.*lbf }
      Reused bearing
      0.64 to 0.92 N*m  { 6.5 to 9.4 kgf*cm, 5.6 to 8.2 in.*lbf }

  14. INSTALL DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE REAR NUT

      Using a chisel and hammer, stake the drive pinion nut.

  15. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY REAR

      Align the matchmarks on the propeller shaft differential flange with the 4 bolts, 4 washers and 4 nuts.

      Torque:
      88.2 N*m  { 900 kgf*cm, 65 ft.*lbf }

  16. INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL OIL
