      *a Recommended Viscosity (SAE)
*b TEMPERATURE RANGE ANTICIPATED BEFORE NEXT OIL CHANGE

Check the oil for deterioration, entry of water, discoloring or thinning.

If the quality is visibly poor, replace the oil.

      Oil grade
API CF-4 or CF (You may also use API CE or CD)
  2. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL

    1. After warming up the engine and then 5 minutes after the engine stops, oil level should be between the "L" and "F# marks of the dipstick.

If low, check for leakage and add oil up to the "F" mark.

      Note

Do not fill with engine oil above the "F" mark.

  3. CHECK OIL PRESSURE

      *1 Oil Pressure Gauge
      *2 Oil Pressure Switch

Using a 24 mm deep socket wrench, remove the oil pressure switch.

    2. Install an oil pressure gauge.

    3. Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.

    4. Measure the oil pressure.

      Oil pressure
      At idle

      29 kPa (0.3 kgf*cm2, 4.3 psi) or more

      At 3000 rpm

      245 kPa (2.5 kgf*cm2, 33 psi) or more

If the oil pressure is not as specified, check the oil pump.

    5. Remove the oil pressure gauge.

      *1 Adhesive

Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the oil pressure switch.

      Adhesive
Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1344, Three Bond 1344 or Equivalent
    7. Reinstall the oil pressure switch.

      Torque:
      15 N*m  { 150 kgf*cm, 11 ft.*lbf }
    8. Start the engine and check for oil leak.
