TURBOCHARGER (w/o DPF) INSPECTION


  1. INSPECT TURBOCHARGER MOTOR

    A01KGAQE02

    1. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 (M-) - 2 (M+) 20°C (68°F) 1 to 100 Ω

      If the result is not as specified, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.

  2. VISUALLY CHECK TURBOCHARGER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Check for deformation and cracks in the turbine wheel on the exhaust side.

      Turbine Wheel

      If the turbine wheel is cracked or deformed, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.

  3. INSPECT AXIAL PLAY OF TURBINE SHAFT


    1. A01KE8T

      Set the needle of a dial indicator to the exhaust side of the turbine shaft.

    2. Move the turbine shaft in the axial direction and measure the axial play of the turbine shaft using the dial indicator.

      Note

      Turbocharger sub-assembly and dial indicators are surely fixed when performing measurement.

      Maximum axial play
      0.09 mm (0.0035 in.) (w/ EGR Cooler Bypass Valve)
      Maximum axial play
      0.11 mm (0.0043 in.) (w/o EGR Cooler Bypass Valve)

      If the axial play is greater than the maximum, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.

  4. INSPECT RADIAL PLAY OF TURBINE SHAFT


    1. A01KGOU

      Insert the needle of a dial indicator into the oil outlet hole, and set it to the center of the turbine shaft.

    2. Move the turbine shaft in the radial direction and measure the radial play of the turbine shaft using the dial indicator.

      Maximum axial play
      0.16 mm (0.0063 in.) (w/ EGR Cooler Bypass Valve)
      Maximum axial play
      0.112 mm (0.0044 in.) (w/o EGR Cooler Bypass Valve)

      If the radial play is greater than the maximum, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.

  5. CHECK TURBINE SHAFT ROTATION


    1. A01KG6K

      Rotate the turbine wheel on the exhaust side with your finger and check that it rotates smoothly.

      Tech Tips

      Even if it takes effort a little to rotate the turbine wheel, this is not a problem.

      If the turbine wheel does not rotate smoothly, replace the turbocharger sub-assembly.
