CYLINDER HEAD DISASSEMBLY

Tech Tips


  • Thoroughly clean all parts to be assembled.

  • Before installing the parts, apply fresh engine oil to all sliding and rotating surfaces.

  • Replace all gaskets and oil seals with new ones.


  1. REMOVE VALVE LIFTER


    1. Remove the valve lifter and adjusting shim.

      Tech Tips

      Arrange the valve lifters and shims in correct order.

  2. REMOVE INTAKE VALVE

      Using SST, compress the compression spring and remove the 2 keepers.

    2. Remove the spring retainer, compression spring, valve and spring seat.

      Tech Tips

      Arrange the valves, compression springs, spring seats and spring retainers incorrect order.

  3. REMOVE EXHAUST VALVE

      Using SST, compress the compression spring and remove the 2 keepers.

    2. Remove the spring retainer, compression spring, valve and spring seat.

      Arrange the valves, compression springs, spring seats and spring retainers incorrect order.

  4. REMOVE VALVE STEM OIL O SEAL OR RING

      Using needle-nose pliers, remove the oil seal.

  5. REMOVE SEMICIRCULAR PLUG

  6. CLEAN CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Using a gasket scraper, remove all the gasket material from the cylinder block contact surface.

      Note

      Be careful not to scratch the cylinder block contact surface.

    2. A01KFT6

      Using a wire brush, remove all the carbon from the combustion chambers.

      Note

      Be careful not to scratch the cylinder block contact surface.

    3. A01KF4X

      Using a valve guide bushing brush and solvent, clean all the guide bushes.

    4. A01KIET

      Using a soft brush and solvent, thoroughly clean the cylinder head.

  7. CLEAN INTAKE VALVE


    1. A01KHVW

      Using a gasket scraper, chip off any carbon from the valve head.

    2. Using a wire brush, thoroughly clean the valve.

  8. CLEAN EXHAUST VALVE


    1. A01KHVW

      Using a gasket scraper, chip off any carbon from the valve head.

    2. Using a wire brush, thoroughly clean the valve.

  9. REMOVE INTAKE VALVE GUIDE BUSH


    1. A01KHXPE01

      Using SST and a hammer, tap out the valve guide bushing.

  10. REMOVE EXHAUST VALVE GUIDE BUSH


    1. A01KGYRE01

      Using SST and a hammer, tap out the valve guide bushing.
