Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  1. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR)

      Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

    3. Select the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Accel Sens. No.1 Volt % and Accel Sens. No.2 Volt %.

    4. Read values.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR - ECM)


    1. Disconnect the A26 accelerator pedal position sensor connector.

    2. Disconnect the E16 and E17 ECM connectors.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the values in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

    4. Reconnect the accelerator pedal position sensor connector.

    5. Reconnect the ECM connectors.

  3. REPLACE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD ASSEMBLY (ACCELERATOR LINK ASSEMBLY)


    1. Replace the accelerator pedal rod assembly (accelerator link assembly) Click here.

  4. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P2121)


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Clear DTCs Click here.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    4. Fully close the accelerator pedal for 3 seconds or more, then hold it partway open for 3 seconds or more, then fully open it for 3 seconds or more.

    5. Select the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

    6. Read DTCs.

  5. REPLACE ECM

  7. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Clear DTCs Click here.

    3. Turn the ignition switch off.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    5. Fully close the accelerator pedal for 3 seconds, then hold it partway open for 3 seconds, then fully open it for 3 seconds.

    6. Select the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

    7. Confirm that the DTC is not output again.
