ECD SYSTEM (w/ EGR Cooler Bypass Valve) ECM Power Source Circuit

DESCRIPTION

When the ignition switch is turned ON, the battery voltage is applied to terminal IGSW of the ECM. The ECM "MREL" output signal causes a current to flow to the coil, closing the contacts of the MAIN relay and supplying power to terminal +B of the ECM.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT ECM (+B VOLTAGE)

      Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    2. Measure the voltage of the E10 and E17 ECM connectors.

      Standard voltage
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E17-24 (+B) - E10-1 (E1) 11 to 14 V

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BODY GROUND)

      Disconnect the E10 ECM connector.

    2. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.

      Standard resistance
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E10-1 (E1) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
    3. Reconnect the ECM connector.

  3. INSPECT ECM (IGSW VOLTAGE)

    2. Measure the voltage of the E10 and E16 ECM connectors.

      Standard voltage
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E16-24 (IGSW) - E10-1 (E1) 11 to 14 V

  4. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY

      Disconnect the I6 ignition switch lock cylinder assembly connector.

    2. Measure the resistance of the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly.

      Standard resistance
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      5 (AM2) - 8 (IG2) LOCK 10 kΩ or higher
      5 (AM2) - 8 (IG2) ON Below 1 Ω
    3. Reconnect the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly connector.

  5. INSPECT ECM (MREL VOLTAGE)


    1. A01KEDSE18

      Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    2. Measure the voltage of the E10 and E16 ECM connectors.

      Standard voltage
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E16-11 (MREL) - E10-1 (E1) 11 to 14 V

  6. INSPECT FUSE (EFI FUSE)

      *2 ECD

      Remove the ECD fuse from the R/B No. 2.

    2. Measure the resistance of the fuse.

      Standard resistance
      Below 1 Ω
    3. Reinstall ECD fuse.

  7. INSPECT EFI MAIN RELAY


    1. A01KFAAE02

      Remove the EFI MAIN relay from the R/B No. 2.

    2. Inspect the EFI MAIN relay.

      Standard resistance
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      3 - 5 10 kΩ or higher
      Below 1 Ω (Apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2)
    3. Reinstall the EFI MAIN relay.

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EFI MAIN RELAY - ECM)


    1. Remove the EFI MAIN relay from the R/B No. 2.

    2. Disconnect the E17 ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance
      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      EFI MAIN relay terminal 3 - E17-24 (+B) Below 1 Ω
      EFI MAIN relay terminal 3 or E17-24 (+B) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reinstall the EFI MAIN relay.

    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
