| DTC Code | DTC Name |
|---|---|
| P0489 | Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit Low |
| P0490 | Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit High |
DESCRIPTION
The EGR actuator is operated by the ECM and opens and closes the electric EGR control valve assembly using gears. The opening angle of the electric EGR control valve assembly is detected by the EGR position sensor, which is mounted on the EGR body.
| DTC Detection Drive Pattern | DTC Detection Condition | Trouble Area |
|---|---|---|
| Idle the engine for 5 seconds or more | The EGR actuator current is below 0.5 A for 2.0 seconds during EGR valve operation. (1 trip detection logic). |
|
| DTC Detection Drive Pattern | DTC Detection Condition | Trouble Area |
|---|---|---|
| Idle the engine for 5 seconds or more | An EGR actuator current of 8 A or higher due to a mechanical malfunction, or a Hall IC temperature of 150 to 160°C (302 to 320°F) or higher is detected. (1 trip detection logic): |

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
Note
Inspect the fuses of circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.
After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration Click here and initialization Click here.
After replacing the fuel supply pump assembly or suction control valve, the ECM needs initialization Click here.
After replacing an injector assembly, the ECM needs registration Click here.
Tech Tips
Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
