REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION


  1. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove dust and oil on the connecting surfaces of the carrier assembly and axle housing.

    2. Apply sealant to both sides of a new gasket.

      Sealant
      Three bond 1344 or equivalent

      Tech Tips

      Install the bolt within 20 minutes after applying adhesive.

    3. Install the rear differential carrier gasket to the axle housing.

      Apply adhesive to the differential carrier installation bolt.

      Adhesive
      Three bond 1215 or equivalent

      Tech Tips


      • Be sure to apply enough adhesive to the threads as shown in the illustration.

      • Install the bolt within 20 minutes after applying adhesive.

    5. A01CHNF

      Using a jack, install the rear differential carrier assembly to the axle housing.

      Note

      Be sure to install the carrier assembly with the ring gear teeth facing the right side of the vehicle when setting on a jack.

    6. Temporarily tighten the 4 nuts and 4 washers, and jack down.

    7. A01CHUB

      Install the 8 bolts, and tighten the rear differential carrier assembly installation bolts and nuts evenly.

      Torque:
      52 N*m  { 530 kgf*cm, 38 ft.*lbf }

  2. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY


    1. A01CIEIE01

      Aligning the matchmarks, install the propeller shaft assembly with the 4 nuts and 4 bolts.

      Torque:
      75 N*m  { 760 kgf*cm, 55 ft.*lbf }

  3. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT

  4. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL


    1. Add oil.

      Capacity
      5.2 liters (5.5 US qts, 4.6 Imp. qts)
      Oil grade
      Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 or equivalent
      Recommended oil viscosity
      SAE 90
