DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL
Using a socket wrench (21 mm), remove the filler plug and gasket.
Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the oil.
Install the drain plug with a new gasket.
SEPARATE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
Put matchmarks on the flanges.
Remove the 4 nuts and 4 bolts, and separate the propeller shaft assembly.
Note
Hang the propeller shaft assembly using wire. Be careful not to apply excessive force to the joint of the propeller shaft assembly.
Tech Tips
If the flange is engaged firmly, lightly tap it to remove using a plastic hammer.
REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION NUT
Using SST and a hammer, unstake the staked part of the rear drive pinion nut.
Note
Be sure to use SST with the tapered end facing the shaft.
Do not grind SST tip with a grinder etc.
Temporarily install the 2 nuts to the bolts on the rear drive pinion companion flange sub-assembly.
Fix the rear drive pinion companion flange with the tire lever. Using a deep socket wrench (41 mm), remove the rear drive pinion nut.
Note
Ensure that the rear drive pinion nut is completely unstaked when removing it.
Ensure to install the nuts so as not to break the bolt of the rear drive pinion companion flange sub-assembly.
Remove the 2 nuts and the 2 bolts.
REMOVE REAR DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE SUB-ASSEMBLY
Remove the rear drive pinion companion flange sub-assembly.
Note
Lightly tap the flange using a plastic hammer if it is engaged firmly into the spline.
REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL
Using SST, remove the rear differential carrier oil seal.
