DIFFERENTIAL OIL REPLACEMENT

Note


  • New gaskets must be used for the filler plug and the drain plug.

  • Confirm there is no oil leak.


  1. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL


    1. A01CH8OE01

      Using a socket wrench (21 mm), remove the filler plug and gasket.

    2. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the oil.

    3. Install the drain plug with a new gasket.

      Torque:
      50 N*m  { 510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf }
  2. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL


    1. Add oil.

      Capacity
      5.2 liters (5.5 US qts, 4.6 Imp. qts)
      Oil grade
      Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 or equivalent
      Recommended oil viscosity
      SAE 90
  3. INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL OIL


    1. A01CI7SE04

      Check that the oil surface is within 5 mm (0.20 in.) of the lowest position of the inner surface of the differential filler plug opening.

      Note


      • Excessively large or small amounts of oil may cause trouble.


      • After replacing oil, drive the vehicle and check the oil level.

      Tech Tips

      If necessary, fill the rear differential carrier with hypoid gear oil.

    2. Check for oil leakage when the oil level is low.

    3. Using a socket wrench (21 mm), install the differential filler plug with a new gasket.

      Torque:
      50 N*m  { 510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf }
