REAR AXLE HUB INSTALLATION


  1. INSTALL REAR DISC ROTOR


    1. A01CIQBE01

      Align the matchmarks of the brake disc and the rear axle hub and then install them with the 6 bolts.

      Torque:
      200 N*m  { 2040 kgf*cm, 147 ft.*lbf }

  2. INSTALL REAR SKID CONTROL ROTOR


    1. A01CHVR

      Using a hexagon wrench (5 mm), install the rear skid control rotor.

      Torque:
      14 N*m  { 143 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf }

  3. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB INNER BEARING OUTER RACE


    1. A01CHO0

      Using a brass bar and hammer, install the outer race.

      Note


      • Apply the brass bar to the cut out of the axle hub to hit the outer race.

      • Do not damage the rear disc.

      • Install the rear axle hub inner bearing outer race evenly.

  4. INSTALL REAR AXLE OUTER BEARING OUTER RACE

      Using SST and a press, press in a new rear axle outer bearing outer race until it contacts the installation surface.

      Note


      • Do not damage the bearing outer race.

      • Slowly and evenly install the bearing outer race.

  5. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT OIL SEAL LH


    1. A01CH0Y

      Using a brass bar and hammer, tap in the oil seal until its surface is flush with the axle hub.

      Note

      Clean the surface where the oil seal comes.

    2. Coat the lip of the oil seal with MP grease.

  6. APPLY GREASE

      Apply some MP grease into the illustrated portion of the axle hub.

      Note

      Be sure not to mix the different kinds of grease, as the grease will deteriorate and bearing failure may result. Do not allow foreign objects or dirt to enter the grease, as this may also cause bearing failure.

  7. INSTALL REAR AXLE OIL SEAL GUIDE

      Using SST and a hammer, install the oil seal guide and inner bearing.

    2. Apply a sufficient amount of MP grease to the roller of the rear axle hub inner bearing.

  8. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND DISC ASSEMBLY


    1. A01CHMQE01

      Fill MP grease so that there should be no gap in the space between the oil seal and rear axle hub inner bearing.

    2. Clean the rear axle hub and disc assembly contact surface of the rear axle housing. Apply a light coat of grease to the contact surface.

    3. Install the rear axle hub and disc assembly on the rear axle housing.

    4. A01CI6RE01

      Using SST and a hammer, tap in the outer bearing to the rear axle housing.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the outer bearing.

  9. REMOVE REAR AXLE BEARING LOCK NUT


    1. Install the lock nut plate.

    2. A01CJAZE01

      Using SST, turn the rear axle hub and disc assembly to tighten the rear axle housing lock nut.

      Torque:
      539 N*m  { 5500 kgf*cm, 397 ft.*lbf }

  10. ADJUST PRELOAD


    1. Using a plastic hammer, tap the rear axle hub. Turn the rear wheel hub in both directions 2 or 3 times to settle the bearing into position.

    2. Using SST, loosen the bearing lock nut until the rear axle hub can be lightly turned.

      Tech Tips

      The bearing lock nut should not be loosened enough to be turned by hand.

    3. A01CH5F

      Using a spring tension gauge, measure the turning torque of the rear axle hub.

      Torque
      35 to 53 N (3.6 to 5.4 kgf, 7.9 to 11.9 lbf)

      Note


      • Make sure that there is no brake drag.

      • After adjusting the rear axle bearing lock nut, be sure to tap the rear axle hub with a plastic hammer to settle the bearing into position.

      • Measure the turning torque in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions.

  11. INSTALL REAR AXLE LOCK NUT PLATE


    1. Install the lock nut plate.

    2. A01CHJB

      Secure the lock nut plate and rear axle bearing lock nut with the 3 bolts.

      Torque:
      9.6 N*m  { 98 kgf*cm, 85 in.*lbf }

      Note

      Align the bolt installation holes on the lock nut plate and rear axle bearing lock nut by tightening the lock nut by the minimum possible amount.

  12. FILL UP GREASE


    1. A01CIWFE01

      Fill the rear axle hub with grease up to the center of the thickness of the lock nut.

  13. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING


    1. A01CHWZ

      Install the rear disc brake cylinder mounting with the 4 bolts.

      Torque:
      265 N*m  { 2700 kgf*cm, 195 ft.*lbf }

  14. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD


    1. Install the 2 brake pads to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

  15. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY


    1. A01CJ23

      Install the rear disc brake cylinder assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      125 N*m  { 1270 kgf*cm, 92 ft.*lbf }

    2. Connect the flexible hose with the union bolt and 2 new gaskets.

      Torque:
      31 N*m  { 316 kgf*cm, 23 ft.*lbf }
