DESCRIPTION
This DTC is stored when the engine oil pressure decreases.
| DTC Detection Drive Pattern | DTC Detection Condition | Trouble Area |
|---|---|---|
| Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait 60 seconds. | The engine oil pressure switch remains OFF for 60 seconds or more while the engine is running (1 trip detection logic). |
|
Tech Tips
A drop in engine oil pressure is indicated by a light in the combination meter assembly. Driving the vehicle while the light is on may lead to engine damage. Checking whether DTC P0524 has been stored will help in determining whether the engine was damaged due to low engine oil pressure.

After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration Click here and initialization Click here.
Tech Tips
Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
PROCEDURE
CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL
Check the engine oil level Click here.
Check the state of the oil level warning light.
| Result | Proceed to |
|---|---|
| Engine oil level is low and oil level warning light is illuminated | A |
| Engine oil level is within the specified range and oil level warning light is not illuminated | B |
Tech Tips
If the oil level warning light is not illuminated even though the engine oil level is lower than the Low mark, or the oil level warning light is illuminated even though the engine oil level is within the specified range, inspect the oil level sensor and related parts for malfunctions.
