ECD SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0168

DTC Code DTC Name
P0168 Fuel Temperature Too High

DESCRIPTION

Refer to DTC P0180 Click here.

P0168
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Warm up the engine, and then drive the vehicle at a speed of 10 km/h (6.3 mph) or more with an engine speed of 1000 rpm.

After engine is warmed up, conditions (a), (b) and (c) continue for more than 1 second (1 trip detection logic):

(a) Engine speed: 500 rpm or more

(b) Fuel temperature: 88°C (190°F) or more

(c) Fuel temperature inside injector assembly: 145°C (293°F) or more

  • Open or short in fuel temperature sensor circuit

  • Fuel temperature sensor (built into injection or supply pump assembly)

  • ECM

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note

  • After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration Click here and initialization Click here.

  • After replacing the injection or supply pump assembly, the ECM needs initialization Click here.

Tech Tips

  • If the engine is operated under high load when the fuel level is low, this DTC may be stored. If the DTC is stored, first check the fuel level.

  • Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was moving or stationary, whether the engine was warmed up or not, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0168)

    1. Replace the normal DLC3 cable (12 V specification) for the intelligent tester with the 24 V DLC3 cable.

      Note

Be sure to use the 24 V DLC3 cable when connecting the intelligent tester to the DLC3. Using the normal DLC3 cable (12 V specification) will cause damage to the tester.

    2. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    4. Turn the tester on.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

    6. Read the DTCs.
