DESCRIPTION

To detect atmospheric pressure, the atmospheric pressure sensor built into the ECM is used in the common rail system. Following the changes in the atmospheric pressure, the ECM corrects the fuel injection volume, timing and duration, and adjusts the common rail internal fuel pressure for optimizing combustion.

1 second elapses after ignition switch turned from off to ON (starter remains off) After the ignition switch is turned to ON, the difference between the atmospheric pressure sensor output and manifold absolute pressure sensor output is more than 8 kPa for 0.5 seconds (2 trip detection logic).
  • Manifold absolute pressure sensor

  • Open or short in manifold absolute pressure sensor circuit

  • Atmospheric pressure sensor (built into ECM)

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0069)


    1. Read the DTCs using the intelligent tester.

      Result
      Display (DTC output) Proceed to
      DTC P0069 is output A
      DTC P0069 and other DTCs are output B

      If codes other than P0069 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE SENSOR - ECM)


    1. Disconnect the manifold absolute pressure sensor connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connectors.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      V9-2 (PIM) - E36-5 (PIM) Always Below 1 Ω
      V9-3 (VC) - E36-13 (VC) Always Below 1 Ω
      V9-1 (E) - E36-14 (E2) Always Below 1 Ω
      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      V9-2 (PIM) or E36-5 (PIM) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      V9-3 (VC) or E36-13 (VC) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the manifold absolute pressure sensor connector.

    5. Reconnect the ECM connectors.
