STEERING PAD(for TMMF Made) INSTALLATION

CAUTION:

Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing (See page SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS > AIRBAG SYSTEM (w/ VSC) > PRECAUTION).

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL STEERING PAD


    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      Connect the airbag connector.

      Note

      Do not use a steering pad that has been dropped.

    4. Push in the locking button.

      Note

      Securely lock the locking button.

    5. Connect the horn terminal.

      Place the steering pad into the steering wheel.

      Gently push the A position shown in the illustration until the steering pad is in contact with the steering wheel cover.

      Note

      Do not push the center position of the steering pad.

      Tech Tips

      Pay attention to the correct hand position. Make sure the upper 2 retaining hooks will engage with the retaining clips properly.

      While pushing the cover in the steering wheel hub direction (A arrow), gently pull the steering pad in the direction of the B arrow and hold it there then push the bottom edge of the steering pad in the A arrow direction.

      Tech Tips


      • Make sure the upper 2 retaining hooks engage properly.

      • Position your hand on the A area.

      • The steering pad cover must contact with the lower spoke of the steering as indicated with the B circle.

  2. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    Torque:
    5.4 N*m  { 55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf }
  3. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
