CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSAXLE FLUID REPLACEMENT

PROCEDURE

  1. REPLACE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSAXLE FLUID

    1. A01VIZK

      Lift the vehicle. [#1]

      Note

Set the vehicle on a lift so that the vehicle is kept level when it is lifted up (make sure the tilt angle from the front to rear and side to side of the vehicle is within +/- 1°).

    2. Remove the engine under cover LH.

    3. A01VEF2

Remove the refill plug and gasket from the continuously variable transaxle assembly. [#2]

    4. A01VLUD

Using a 6 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the overflow plug and gasket from the continuously variable transaxle assembly. [#3]

    5. A01VKCC

Using a 6 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the No. 1 transmission oil filler tube from the transaxle oil pan sub-assembly and drain the fluid into a container. [#4]

    6. A01VEHE

Measure the amount of fluid drained. [#5]

      Tech Tips

Add the same amount of fluid in step [#8].

    7. Using a 6 mm hexagon socket wrench, install the No. 1 transmission oil filler tube to the transaxle oil pan sub-assembly. [#6]

      Torque:
      0.8 N*m  { 8 kgf*cm, 7 in.*lbf }
    8. A01VLUD

Using a 6 mm hexagon socket wrench, temporarily install the gasket and overflow plug to the continuously variable transaxle assembly. [#7]

      Tech Tips

Reuse the old gasket as the overflow plug will be removed again to adjust the fluid level.

    9. A01VL6M

Add fluid to the refill hole using the same amount of fluid drained in step [#5]. [#8]

      Note

Use Toyota Genuine CVT fluid FE.

    10. A01VEF2

Temporarily install the gasket and refill plug to avoid fluid spillage. [#9]

      Tech Tips

Reuse the old gasket as the refill plug will be removed again to adjust the fluid level.

    11. Lower the vehicle. [#10]

    12. Start the engine. [#11]

    13. Slowly move the shift lever from P to D, and then back to P (keep the shift lever in each position for approximately 3 seconds). [#12]

      Tech Tips

Slowly move the shift lever to circulate the fluid through each part of the continuously variable transaxle assembly.

    14. Allow the engine to idle for 30 seconds to warm it up. [#13]
