CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSAXLE SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0841, P2829

DTC Code DTC Name
P0841 Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch "A" Circuit Range/Performance
P2829 Pressure Control Solenoid "K" Performance or Stuck Off

DESCRIPTION

The ECM controls the secondary oil pressure based on the secondary oil pressure signal output by the oil pressure sensor.

DTC No. Detection Item DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area MIL Memory
P0841 Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch "A" Circuit Range/Performance

Either one of the following conditions is met (1 trip detection logic):

  • When the requested oil pressure is 1.4 MPa (14.3 kgf/cm2, 203 psi) or more, the oil pressure sensor output is 0.5 MPa (5.1 kgf/cm2, 73 psi) or less for 2 seconds or more.

  • When the requested oil pressure is 1.0 MPa (10.2 kgf/cm2, 145 psi) or less, the difference between the calculated primary pulley pressure and target primary pulley pressure is 2.5 MPa (25.5 kgf/cm2, 363 psi) or more for 3 seconds or more.

P2829 Pressure Control Solenoid "K" Performance or Stuck Off

One of the following conditions is met (1 trip detection logic):

  • When the requested oil pressure is 1.0 MPa (10.2 kgf/cm2, 145 psi) or less, the oil pressure sensor output is 2.5 MPa (25.5 kgf/cm2, 363 psi) or more for 3 seconds or more.

  • When the vehicle speed is less than 8 km/h (5 mph), the ratio of the transmission revolution sensor (NIN) output speed and transmission revolution sensor (NOUT) output speed exceeds a specified value for 0.2 seconds or more.

  • When the oil pressure sensor output is less than 0.35 MPa (3.6 kgf/cm2, 51 psi) and the target gear ratio is 2.0 or more, the actual gear ratio is less than 1.0 for 1.5 seconds or more.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The ECM checks for belt clamping high-pressure or low-pressure malfunctions. If a mechanical malfunction of the shift solenoid valve SLS or the oil pressure sensor is detected by the ECM, it illuminates the MIL and stores a DTC.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0841 AND P2829)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    5. Read the DTCs using the GTS.

      Tech Tips

If any DTCs other than P0841 or P2829 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

    CAUTION:

    • Do not perform a stall test if there are any people or objects near the vehicle.

    • Do not perform a stall test if any wheel chocks are out of position.

    • Do not perform the stall test on a slippery or low-friction surface that could allow the tires to spin.

    Note

    • This test must be performed after checking and confirming that the engine is normal.

    • Perform this test with the CVT fluid temperature between 50 and 100°C (122 and 212°F).

    • Perform this test with the air conditioning off.

    • Do not perform the stall speed test for longer than 5 seconds

    • When performing the stall speed test more than once, make sure to wait 15 seconds or more between tests.

    1. Warm up the engine.

    2. Fully apply the parking brake and chock all 4 wheels.

    3. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    5. Turn the GTS on.

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Connect the TC and TE1.

    7. Observe "A/T Oil Pressure" in the Data List.

    8. According to the display on the GTS, read the Data List.
