STOP AND START SYSTEM Stop and Start System does not Operate (During PM Regeneration)

DESCRIPTION

Check whether stop and start control is prohibited based on the PM regeneration conditions.

Tech Tips

Stop and start control is prohibited during PM regeneration.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (DPF WARNING LIGHT)

    1. Check the illumination condition of the DPF warning light.

  2. READ VALUE USING GTS

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.

    5. According to the vehicle conditions displayed on the GTS, judge whether PM regeneration is being performed.

      Tech Tips

      Vehicle conditions during PM regeneration:

      • EGR is cut off and exhaust temperature is high

      • After injection continues while the engine is idling and exhaust temperature is high

      Standard
Tester Display Measurement Item Type Range Normal Condition Reference Value Diagnostic Note
After Injection Period After injection period Calculated value by ECM Min.: 0 μs, Max.: 65535 μs Except during PM regeneration: 0 μs -

During PM regeneration, acceleration and deceleration shock may increase slightly.

      Symptoms when out of range:

Poor drivability, white smoke during PM regeneration.

Actual EGR Valve Pos. EGR valve position Calculated from EGR valve opening position sensor Min.: 0%, Max.: 100% Idling after engine warmed up: 0 to 80%
      • Ignition switch ON: 0.3%

      • Cranking: 0%

      • Idling with EGR off (warm up the engine): 0%

      • Idling with EGR on (warm up the engine): 65.4%

      • Running without load (2500 rpm): 0%

      • Running without load (4000 rpm): 0%

      • Fully open: 100%.

      • Fully closed: 0%.

      • Inspect while comparing to "Target EGR Position".

      • Check the valve movement by performing the Active Test.

      • Sometimes the malfunction only occurs around a certain temperature, so refer to the engine coolant temperature and outside temperature at the time the malfunction occurred.

      Tech Tips

If the time of engine idling is long (approximately 20 minutes or more), EGR will be cut off. At this time, if the vehicle is driven in 4th gear between 90 and 100 km/h (56 and 62 mph) for 30 minutes, EGR will resume.

      Symptoms when out of range:

      • EGR valve stuck open: Poor starts (engine does not stop), black smoke, white smoke, lack of power

      • EGR valve stuck closed: Increased turbo booster noise
