STOP AND START SYSTEM REGISTRATION

PROCEDURE

  1. ECU EXCHANGE

    Note

When replacing the engine stop and start ECU with a new one, make sure to download the previous status (number of starter operations) of the old engine stop and start ECU. After replacing the engine stop and start ECU, turn the ignition switch to ON and wait 20 seconds, then confirm that "OK" is displayed for the Data List item "Oper Prohibition (O/P Air Bleeding)". Then upload the previous status (number of starter operations) to the engine stop and start ECU.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / ECU Exchange.

    5. Following the prompts on the GTS display, download the number of starter operations that is stored in the ECU to the GTS.

    6. Replace the engine stop and start ECU Click here.

    7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / ECU Exchange.

    8. Following the prompts on the GTS display, upload the number of starter operations to a new engine stop and start ECU.

  2. CLEAR NUMBER OF STARTER OPERATIONS

    Note

    • After the starter assembly is replaced, be sure to clear the number of starter operations stored in the engine stop and start ECU.

      1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      3. Turn the GTS on.

      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Starter Exchange.

      5. Following the prompts on the GTS display, clear the number of starter operations.

    • When the starter assembly is replaced, "ST relay" and "ST NO. 2 relay" must be also replaced. (for CVT)

    • When the starter assembly is replaced, "ST relay" must be also replaced. (for Manual transaxle)

  3. RESET AIR CONDITIONING INFORMATION

    Note

After the engine stop and start ECU is replaced or after an air conditioner kit is installed, clear the A/C information stored in the engine stop and start ECU.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Reset A/C Information.

    5. Following the prompts on the GTS display, clear the A/C information.

  4. LEARNING AIR CONDITIONING INFORMATION

    Tech Tips

When initialization of the air conditioning information is complete, air conditioning information learning is automatically performed. If the learning cannot be performed properly, inspect the CAN communication system.

  5. CLEAR THE ZERO POINT CALIBRATION DATA

    Note

    • Stored system information cannot be overwritten unless it is cleared. Clear the stored information and then store new system information.

    • When the engine stop and start ECU or airbag sensor assembly are replaced, initialization/obtainment of 0 point learning information is performed for the engine stop and start ECU.

    1. Clear the zero point calibration data.

      1. Turn the ignition switch off.

      2. Move the shift lever to P and apply the parking brake. (for CVT)

      3. Move the shift lever to neutral and apply the parking brake. (for Manual transaxle)

      4. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

        Tech Tips

        Do not start the engine.

      6. Turn the GTS on.

      7. Select the engine stop and start ECU to clear the zero point calibration data using the GTS. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Clear.

        Note

When the deceleration sensor zero point is cleared, the system information stored in the engine stop and start ECU is also cleared. If the vehicle is driven for 5 seconds or more at 3 km/h (2 mph) or more in this condition, the engine stop and start ECU will store DTC P1589 and blink the stop and start cancel indicator light.

      8. Turn the ignition switch off.

  6. PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION OF THE DECELERATION SENSOR

    Note

Park the vehicle on a level surface (grade: +/-1 %). Do not shake the vehicle body or open/close any of the doors during zero point calibration. To avoid vibrations caused by the engine idling, do not start the engine.

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Check the shift lever in neutral. (for Manual transaxle)

    3. Check that the shift lever is in P. (for CVT)

    4. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      Tech Tips

      Do not start the engine.

    6. Check that the parking brake is applied and the brake warning light is illuminated.

    7. Turn the GTS on.

    8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration.

      Tech Tips

If DTC P1589 is stored, the stop and start cancel indicator light will blink.

    9. While keeping the vehicle stationary, follow the prompts on the GTS screen. Check that "Complete" is displayed on the GTS screen.

      Note

If zero point calibration fails, perform the registration procedure again from "CLEAR THE ZERO POINT CALIBRATION DATA".

  7. CLEAR THE INTEGRATED CURRENT VALUE

    Tech Tips

After charging the battery, perform the integrated current value initialization.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Integrated Current Value Initialization.

  8. AIR BLEED OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY WITH MOTOR (CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY)

    Note

Bleed the oil pump assembly with motor (continuously variable transaxle assembly) after removing and installing the continuously variable transaxle assembly or replacing the CVT fluid.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      Tech Tips

      Do not start the engine.

    3. Turn the GTS on.
