  1. STOP AND START CONTROL

    The stop and start system is controlled according to the following conditions, achieving appropriate engine stop and start control together with safe and smooth driving characteristics.


    1. When the conditions in the following table have been met, the engine can be stopped due to stop and start system control.

        The engine is stopped until the following conditions are not met:


        • -4838 A-sec or higher: When Status of Battery Charge Control*7 is Change Control Condition Mode or Low Temperature Mode*3

        • -864 A-sec or higher: When Status of Battery Charge Control*7 is Stop and Start Standalone, Stop and Start Restriction Mode or Temperature High/Low Mode*3

        • -5445 A-sec or higher: When Status of Battery Charge Control*7 is Change Control Condition Mode or Low Temperature Mode*4

        • -990 A-sec or higher: When Status of Battery Charge Control*7 is Stop and Start Standalone, Stop and Start Restriction Mode or Temperature High/Low Mode*4

      Air Conditioning Other than when stop and start control is prohibited
      Heater

      Either of the following conditions is met:


      • Blower switch is off

      • The blower switch is on when the ambient temperature is 11°C (51.8°F) or higher or the engine coolant temperature is 56°C (132.8°F) or higher

      • Blower switch on, air conditioning switch off and 10 seconds or more have elapsed after engine restarted by stop and start control


      • *1: for 1NR-FE

      • *2: for 1KR-FE

      • *3: for Manual Transaxle

      • *4: for CVT

      Tip:
      • *5: When the battery temperature is -15°C (5°F) or lower, or 75°C (167°F) or higher, the stop and start control is prohibited. When the battery temperature returns to -10°C (14°F) or higher, or 70°C (158°F) or lower, stop and start control is permitted.

      • *6: Read the Data List item "Integrated Current" or "Oper Permission (Integrated Current)" when checking the integrated current value (Click here).

      • *7: Read the Data List item "Status of Battery Charge Control" when checking the battery charge control (Click here).

    2. When the engine has been stopped due to Stop and start system control, and any of the following conditions are met, the engine will restart.

      Both of the following conditions are met:


      • Blower switch: on

      • Within the certain period after restarting from idling stop (threshold value varies depending on the operating condition of idling stop)

      Any of the following conditions are met:


      • A/C switch, blower switch: on

      • Defogger switch: on

      • Blower switch turned off during auto control or blower mode changed to manual

      • Changes from stop and start system priority control to normal system control

      Battery Battery performance or voltage drops
      Vehicle Speed Vehicle speed signal is input (Vehicle stopped on a slope, etc.)
      Driver Door Open
      Driver Seat Belt Driver seat belt is unfastened
      Brake Pedal Brake pedal released (brake fluid pressure decreases)
  2. SYSTEM PROHIBIT CONTROL

    The engine stop and start ECU prohibits Stop and start system control according to the table below. The prohibition conditions are specified for each system.

    • Blower switch is on

    • Air conditioning switch is on

    • Outside temperature is 23°C (73.4°F) or more

    • Evaporator temperature is 9°C (48.2°F) or more

    • Cabin temperature higher than set temperature by +3°C or morer

    Cooling function is not effective

    Any of the following conditions have been met:


    • Evaporator temperature is 9°C (48.2°F) or less

    • Blower switch is turned off

    • Air conditioning system is turned off

    While air conditioning system (cooling function) is on

    Defogger:

    • If the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal, stop and start control is prohibited until refresh charge is completed. After connecting the cable, drive the vehicle until refresh charge is completed and stop and start control is permitted (approximately 15 to 40 minutes).

    • Allow the engine to idle for 3 minutes after the engine warms up and check that the engine speed is within 50 rpm of the target idle speed.

  3. WARNING CONTROL

    If any of the following operations are performed while the engine is stopped due to stop and start control, the system will not restart the engine. The engine will change the mode from "stopped due to system control" to "stalled" or the driver will be warned using the buzzer.

  5. EFFECT OF MALFUNCTION ON STOP AND START SYSTEM OPERATION

    Depending on the malfunction, stop and start system control may be prohibited as a fail-safe function. The following table shows effects on the vehicle and areas to be inspected according to malfunctions in the stop and start system.
