OIL AND OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

CAUTION:


  • Prolonged and repeated contact with engine oil will result in the loss of natural oil from the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and dermatitis. In addition, used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.

  • Wear protective clothing and gloves. Avoid contact with used oil. If contact occurs, wash your skin thoroughly with soap or waterless hand cleaner. Never use gasoline, thinners, or solvents to wash the skin.

  • In order to protect the environment, dispose of used oil and used oil filters at designated disposal sites only.

PROCEDURE


  1. DRAIN ENGINE OIL


    1. Remove the oil filler cap.

    2. Remove the oil drain plug and drain the oil into a container.

    3. Clean the oil drain plug.

    4. Install the oil drain plug with a new oil pan drain plug gasket.

      Torque:
      38 N*m  { 387 kgf*cm, 28 ft.*lbf }

  2. REMOVE OIL FILTER CAP ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 2 clips and open the service cover.

      Using SST, remove the oil filter cap.

      Tech Tips

      As the oil filter cap is loosened, when the clip on the oil filter cap is facing down or up, oil will spill out of the oil filter cap.

  3. REMOVE OIL FILTER ELEMENT

    1. Remove the oil filter element and oil filter cap gasket from the oil filter cap.

  4. INSTALL OIL FILTER ELEMENT


    1. Clean the inside of oil filter cap, threads, and oil filter cap gasket groove.

      A01VL3H Apply Engine Oil

      Apply a small amount of engine oil to a new oil filter cap gasket and install it to the oil filter cap.

    3. Install a new oil filter element into the oil filter cap.

    4. Remove any dirt or foreign matter from the contact surfaces of the oil filter cap (with oil filter element) and oil filter bracket.

    5. Install the oil filter cap (with oil filter element) to the oil filter bracket.

  5. INSTALL OIL FILTER CAP ASSEMBLY

    1. Using SST, tighten the oil filter cap.

      SST
      09228-06501
      Torque:
      25 N*m  { 255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf }
    2. A01VEXF

      Close the service cover with the 2 clips.

  6. ADD ENGINE OIL


    1. Add clean engine oil and install the oil filler cap.

      (You may also use API CE or CD)

  7. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL

  8. INSPECT FOR OIL LEAK


    1. Start the engine. Check for engine oil leaks from the connected parts of the oil filter cap and oil filter drain plug.
