CYLINDER HEAD REASSEMBLY

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD OIL ORIFICE


    1. A01VF5Y

      Tap in the cylinder head oil orifice to the cylinder head sub-assembly.

  2. INSTALL STUD BOLT


    1. Using double nuts, install stud bolts A to the cylinder head sub-assembly.

    2. Using an E8 "TORX" socket, install stud bolts B to the cylinder head sub-assembly.

      Torque:
      7.5 N*m  { 76 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf }

  3. INSTALL VALVE SPRING SEAT


    1. A01VF61

      Install the valve spring seats to the cylinder head sub-assembly.

  4. INSTALL VALVE STEM OIL SEAL

      Apply a light coat of engine oil to new valve stem oil seals.

      Note

      Pay close attention when installing the intake valve stem oil seals and exhaust valve stem oil seals. Installing the intake valve stem oil seal to the exhaust side or installing the exhaust valve stem oil seal to the intake side may cause installation problems later.

      Tech Tips

      The intake valve stem oil seal is gray and exhaust valve stem oil seal is black.

      Using SST, push in the valve stem oil seals to the intake valve guide bush and exhaust valve guide bush.

      Note

      Make sure to use SST, or the valve stem oil seals may be damaged or improperly seated.

      Make sure that each valve stem oil seal is pushed in to the specified depth as shown in the illustration.

      Standard depth
      Intake side
      9.7 to 11.3 mm (0.382 to 0.445 in.)
      Exhaust side
      9.3 to 10.9 mm (0.366 to 0.429 in.)

  5. INSTALL INTAKE VALVE

      Sufficiently apply engine oil to the tip area of the intake valve as shown in the illustration.

      Standard application width
      30 mm (1.18 in.) or more

    2. Install the intake valves, inner compression springs and valve spring retainers to the cylinder head sub-assembly.

      Note

      Install the same parts in the same combination to their original locations.

      Place the cylinder head sub-assembly on wooden blocks.

    4. Using SST, compress the inner compression springs and install the valve spring retainer locks to the valve spring retainers.

      Using a pin punch, lightly tap the valve stem tip to ensure a proper fit.

      Note


      • Be careful not to damage the intake valve stem tip.

      • Be careful not to tap the valve spring retainer.

  6. INSTALL EXHAUST VALVE

      Sufficiently apply engine oil to the tip area of the exhaust valve as shown in the illustration.

      Standard application width
      30 mm (1.18 in.) or more

    2. Install the exhaust valves, inner compression springs and valve spring retainers to the cylinder head sub-assembly.

      Note

      Install the same parts in the same combination to their original locations.

      Place the cylinder head sub-assembly on wooden blocks.

    4. Using SST, compress the inner compression springs and install the valve spring retainer locks to the valve spring retainers.

      Using a pin punch, lightly tap the valve stem tip to ensure a proper fit.

      Note


      • Be careful not to damage the exhaust valve stem tip.

      • Be careful not to tap the valve spring retainer.

  7. APPLY ENGINE OIL

      Apply engine oil to the top surfaces of the valves as shown in the illustration.
