CAMSHAFT TIMING CONTROL MOTOR ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT FUNCTION OF CAMSHAFT TIMING CONTROL MOTOR WITH EDU ASSEMBLY

    1. Check Rotation Direction Signal:

      1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      3. Turn the GTS on.

      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT-iE Linear (Bank1) / Data List / VVT-iE Mot Direction #1.

      5. According to the display on the GTS, perform the Active Test with the engine stopped and check the rotation direction signal.

        Specified Condition
Active Test Movement Order Specified Condition
        IG-OFF → ON Reverse

If the result is not as specified, replace the camshaft timing control motor with EDU assembly. If the result is still not as specified, replace the wire harness.

    2. Check VVT Change Angle:

      1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      3. Start the engine and warm it up.

      4. Turn the GTS on.

      5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT-iE Linear (Bank1) / Data List / VVT Change Angle #1 and VVT-iE Mot Direction #1.

      6. According to the display on the GTS, perform the Active Test with the engine idling and read the values of "VVT Target Angle #1" and "VVT Change Angle #1".

        Specified Condition
Active Test Movement Order Difference between "VVT Target Angle #1" and "VVT Change Angle #1"
        0 deg → 10 deg → 20 deg → 40 deg → 10 deg → 0 deg → 10 deg → END Within 4 DegFR

If the result is not as specified, inspect the camshaft timing control motor with EDU assembly and camshaft timing gear assembly.
