SFI SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P2228, P2229

DTC Code DTC Name
P2228 Barometric Pressure Circuit Low Input
P2229 Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input

DESCRIPTION

Tech Tips

This DTC is applicable to w/o stop and start system only.

A00495QE06

The atmospheric pressure sensor is installed inside the vehicle cabin and measures the atmospheric pressure using a built-in sensor. The ECM determines the altitude of the vehicle based on the output voltage of the vacuum sensor and corrects the intake air volume measured by the mass air flow meter to perform air fuel ratio control.

DTC No. Detection Item DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area MIL Memory
P2228 Barometric Pressure Circuit Low Input The output voltage from the vacuum sensor is less than 1.4 V for 3 seconds or more (1 trip detection logic).
  • Open or short in atmospheric pressure sensor circuit

  • Wire harness or connector

  • Atmospheric pressure sensor

  • ECM

Does not come on DTC stored (w/o Stop and Start System) / - (w/ Stop and Start System)
P2229 Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input The output voltage from the vacuum sensor is higher than 4.0 V for 3 seconds or more (1 trip detection logic).
  • Open or short in atmospheric pressure sensor circuit

  • Wire harness or connector

  • Atmospheric pressure sensor

  • ECM

Does not come on DTC stored (w/o Stop and Start System) / - (w/ Stop and Start System)

Tech Tips

When any of these DTCs are output, check the atmospheric pressure using the GTS. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / Atmospheric Pressure.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The ECM monitors the atmospheric pressure sensor voltage and uses this value to calculate atmospheric pressure. If the sensor output voltage deviates from the normal operating range, the ECM interprets this as a malfunction in the vacuum sensor and stores a DTC.

Example:

If the sensor output voltage is less than 1.4 V, or higher than 4.0 V for 3 seconds or more, the ECM stores a DTC.

MONITOR STRATEGY

Frequency of Operation Continuous

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  3. Turn the GTS on.

  4. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).

  5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  7. Turn the GTS on.

  8. Wait 5 seconds or more.

  9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

  10. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.

  12. Input the DTC: P2228 or P2229.

  13. Check the DTC judgment result.

    GTS Display Description
    NORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System normal

    ABNORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System abnormal

    INCOMPLETE
    • DTC judgment not completed

    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions

    N/A
    • Unable to perform DTC judgment

    • Number of DTCs which do not fulfill DTC preconditions has reached ECU memory limit

    Tech Tips

    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

    • If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform the Confirmation Driving Pattern and check the DTC judgment result again.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. READ VALUE USING GTS (ATMOSPHERE PRESSURE)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / Atmosphere Pressure.

    5. Read the Atmosphere Pressure value.

      OK
Same value as the actual atmospheric pressure.

      Tech Tips

Standard atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa(abs) [758 mmHg(abs)]. For every 100 m (328 ft.) increase in altitude, atmospheric pressure drops by approximately 1 kPa (7.5 mmHg). The pressure also varies due to the weather (high atmospheric pressure, low atmospheric pressure).
