DTC No. Detection Item DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area MIL Memory
P0016 Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A) Deviation in the crankshaft position sensor signal and camshaft position sensor (for intake camshaft) signal (2 trip detection logic).
  • Valve timing

  • Camshaft timing gear assembly

  • ECM

Comes on (Euro-OBD) / Does not come on (Except Euro-OBD) DTC stored

Tech Tips

If initialization is performed using the GTS with any of the connectors of the wire harnesses between the power source or ECM and the cam timing control motor with EDU assembly disconnected, DTC P0016 may be stored. If DTC P0016 is output, check the connection condition of each connector.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

This DTC is stored when a deviation in the valve timing is detected. If a deviation in the valve timing is detected when the engine is idling (during valve timing learning) after performing learning value reset using the GTS or when the vehicle is being driven, the ECM determines that a malfunction has occurred. If a deviation in the valve timing is detected in consecutive driving cycles, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and stores a DTC. In this case, DTC P0365 (Camshaft Position Sensor Malfunction) may also be stored.

    ABNORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System abnormal

    INCOMPLETE
    • DTC judgment not completed

    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions

    N/A
    • Unable to perform DTC judgment

    • Number of DTCs which do not fulfill DTC preconditions has reached ECU memory limit

    Tech Tips

    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

    • If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform steps [E] through [G].

  15. Drive the vehicle for 10 minutes [E].

    CAUTION:

When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.

  16. Idle the engine for 5 minutes or more [F].

  17. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [G].

  18. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  19. Check the DTC judgment result.

    Tech Tips

    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has malfunction.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0016)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    5. Read the DTCs.
