  • When replacing the ECM, the ECM needs Registration and Initialization Click here.

  • Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

Tech Tips

When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the intelligent tester. Then after installing the new ECM, perform all of the initialization/registrations for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the intelligent tester display.

  1. CHECK WHETHER ENGINE CAN BE CRANKED


    1. Check if the engine can be cranked.

  2. INSPECT STARTER RELAY ASSEMBLY

  3. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL)


    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the intelligent tester on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.

    5. Check the value displayed on the intelligent tester when the ignition switch is turned to the ON and START positions.

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STARTER RELAY HOLDER TERMINAL VOLTAGE)

      Remove the starter relay assembly from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STARTER RELAY ASSEMBLY HOLDER - BODY GROUND)


    1. Remove the starter relay assembly from the engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      1 (Starter relay holder) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STARTER ASSEMBLY - STARTER RELAY ASSEMBLY HOLDER)


    1. Remove the starter relay assembly from the engine room relay block.

    2. Disconnect the B1 starter assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B1-1 - 3 (Starter relay holder) Always Below 1 Ω
      B1-1 or 3 (Starter relay holder) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  7. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL)


    1. Disconnect the A52 power management control ECU connector.

    2. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    4. Turn the intelligent tester on.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.

    6. Check the value displayed on the intelligent tester when the ignition switch is turned to the ON and START positions.

    1. Disconnect the A59 ECM connector.

    2. Disconnect the A52 power management control ECU connector.

    3. Disconnect the A39 clutch start switch assembly connector.

    4. Remove the starter relay assembly from the engine room relay block.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
