ECD SYSTEM(w/ DPF), Diagnostic DTC:P20E2

DTC Code DTC Name
P20E2 Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/2 Correlation Bank 1

DESCRIPTION

The exhaust gas temperature sensor B1S1 and exhaust gas temperature sensor B1S2 are used to monitor the difference in the temperature of the exhaust gas before and after the DPF catalytic converter.

This DTC is stored when a deviation in the characteristics of either sensor is detected. After a long soak the output of the exhaust gas temperature sensor B1S1 and exhaust gas temperature sensor B1S2 should be approximately the same. When the engine is started after a long soak (engine has been stopped for 6 hours or more), if the difference between output of the exhaust gas temperature sensor B1S1 and exhaust gas temperature sensor B1S2 exceeds the threshold, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store this DTC.

P20E2
DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Ignition switch ON in cold engine (At least 6 hours ignition switch off). The difference between the exhaust gas temperature sensor B1S1 and exhaust gas temperature sensor B1S2 is higher than calibrated threshold when ignition switch to ON after engine stopping longer than 6 hours (2 trip detection logic).

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

When replacing the ECM, the ECM needs Registration and Initialization Click here.

Tech Tips

  • When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the GTS. Then after installing a new ECM, perform all of the initialization and registration procedures for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the GTS display.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (DTC P20E2)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    5. Read the DTCs.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
      DTC P20E2 is output A
DTC P20E2 and other DTCs are output B

      Tech Tips

If any DTCs other than P20E2 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. READ VALUE USING GTS (EXHAUST TEMPERATURE B1S1 AND EXHAUST TEMPERATURE B1S2)

    1. Leave the vehicle for 6 hours or more.

      Tech Tips

It is necessary to leave the vehicle for 6 hours or more to create conditions similar to the DTC detection conditions.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Exhaust Temperature B1S1 and Exhaust Temperature B1S2.

    5. Read the Exhaust Temperature B1S1 value on the GTS.

      Standard
      Approximately 50°C (122°F)
    6. Read the Exhaust Temperature B1S2 value on the GTS.

      Standard
      Approximately 50°C (122°F)

      Tech Tips

The value of Exhaust Temperature B1S1 and Exhaust Temperature B1S2 are usually approximately 50°C (122°F) at cold start. If the value of either is extremely high, replace the corresponding exhaust gas temperature sensor with a new one.
