PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT REAR BRAKE DRUM INSIDE DIAMETER

      *1 Brake Drum Gauge

Using a brake drum gauge or the equivalent, measure the inside diameter of the brake drum.

      Inside diameter
      Type Standard Maximum
      TMC Made 1KR-FE 200 mm (7.874 in.) 201 mm (7.913 in.)
      TMC Made 1NR-FE 228.6 mm (9.000 in.) 229.6 mm (9.039 in.)
TMMF Made 202.5 mm (7.972 in.) 204 mm (8.032 in.)

If the inside diameter is greater than the maximum, replace the brake drum.

  2. INSPECT REAR BRAKE SHOE LINING THICKNESS

      Text in Illustration
      *1 Ruler

Using a ruler, measure the thickness of the shoe lining.

      Thickness
      Type Standard Minimum
      TMC Made 1KR-FE 4.0 mm (0.157 in.) 1.0 mm (0.039 in.)
      TMC Made 1NR-FE 5.0 mm (0.197 in.) 1.0 mm (0.039 in.)
TMMF Made 4.2 mm (0.165 in.) 1.0 mm (0.039 in.)

If the lining thickness is equal to or less than the minimum value, or if there is any severe or uneven wear, replace the brake shoe.

      Note

If the brake shoes need replacing, they must be replaced as a set.

  3. INSPECT REAR BRAKE DRUM AND REAR BRAKE SHOE LINING FOR PROPER CONTACT

    1. A01VGIC

Apply chalk to the inside surface of the drum, then grind the brake shoe lining so that they fit together properly.

If the contact between the drum and the shoe lining is improper, repair it using a brake shoe grinder or replace the brake shoe assembly.

  4. INSPECT REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER (for TMC Made)

    1. Check the cylinder bore and piston for rust and scoring.
