UNLOCK OPERATION CONDITIONS FOR STEERING LOCK
When any of the following condition are met, the unlock operation is performed:
Vehicle is stopped.
The shift lever is in P*.
Matching code is detected in vehicle interior.
The engine switch pressed: off → on (ACC)
*: for CVT
When any of the following conditions are met, key verification is performed.
The engine switch off.
The engine switch is pressed.
The brake pedal is depressed so that the engine can be started.
Tech Tips
Key verification occurs when the code emitted from the key and the code calculated by the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) are compared to check that they match.
Certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) verification occurs when the S code and L code are verified while the engine is being started or the engine switch is being pushed. The S code is used for certification between the ID code box (immobiliser code ECU) and the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly). The L code is used for certification between the ID code box (immobiliser code ECU) and the steering lock actuator assembly (steering lock ECU).
LOCK OPERATION CONDITIONS FOR STEERING LOCK
When all of the following conditions are met and the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) has been verified, the lock operation is performed.
The engine switch is off.
The shift lever is in P*1.
Any door is opened and then closed or a door lock operation (entry door lock, wireless door lock or key-linked lock operation*2) is performed.
Tech Tips
*1: for CVT
*2: This is the lock/unlock operation with the mechanical key.
WARNING FUNCTION
The smart warning light blinks in yellow in the combination meter assembly (for Segment display type) or a check entry and start system message is displayed in the combination meter assembly (for TFT display type) when one of the following occurs.
vehicle speed signal malfunction is detected.
malfunction that interferes with steering lock ECU operation is detected.
IG circuit malfunction is detected.
Tech Tips
DTCs are stored in all cases listed above.
STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (STEERING LOCK ECU) DESCRIPTION
The steering lock ECU is built into the steering lock actuator assembly of the steering column assembly.
The steering lock actuator assembly (steering lock ECU) is not connected to the CAN communication system. However, the steering lock actuator assembly (steering lock ECU) is connected to the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) via LIN communication and communicates with other components via CAN communication through the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly).
