DTC Detection Drive Pattern DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
Engine running at 1500 to 2800 rpm or more for 30 seconds*

All of the following conditions are met: (1 trip detection logic).


  • Battery voltage is 11 V or higher.

  • Engine oil pressure is less than 140 to 270 kPa.

  • Oil pressure switching valve assembly turned from on to off.

  • Oil pressure switching valve assembly off for 1 second.

(1 trip detection logic)

  • Oil pressure sender gauge assembly

  • Oil pressure switching valve assembly

  • Oil pump assembly (oil pump drive and driven rotor)

  • ECM

*: Using the GTS, the oil pressure control system can be inspected by performing Engine Oil Pressure Control Check. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT/ Utility / Engine Oil Pressure Control Check.

Note


  • When replacing the ECM, the ECM needs Registration and initialization Click here.

  • Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.

Tech Tips


  • When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the GTS. Then after installing the new ECM, perform all of the initialization/registrations for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the GTS display.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL


    1. Check the engine oil level Click here.

    2. Check the state of the oil level warning light.

      Engine oil level is within the specified range and oil level warning light is not illuminated B

      Tech Tips

      If the oil level warning light is not illuminated even though the engine oil level is lower than the Low mark, or the oil level warning light is illuminated even though the engine oil level is within the specified range, inspect the oil level sensor and related parts for malfunctions.

  2. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEAKS


    1. Check for engine oil leaks.

      If there are engine oil leaks, perform repairs.

  4. PERFORM ENGINE OIL PRESSURE CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Start the engine and warm it up.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / Engine Oil Pressure Control Check Click here.

    6. Compare the "valve off" (high pressure control mode) and "valve on" (low pressure control mode) oil pressure values and check the difference.

      Standard
      24.5 kPa or higher.

  5. PERFORM ENGINE OIL PRESSURE CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK


    1. Disconnect the B65 oil pressure switching valve assembly connector.

      Note


      • Make sure that the engine is stopped before disconnecting the connector of the oil pressure switching valve assembly.

      • Make sure that the disconnected connector does not get caught in moving engine parts.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    4. Turn the GTS on.

    5. Start the engine and warm it up.

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / Engine Oil Pressure Control Check Click here.

    7. Check the engine oil pressure value.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
      Engine oil pressure rises to between 120 and 430 kPa A

      Tech Tips

      Low oil pressure control mode is not performed when the connector of the oil pressure switching valve assembly is disconnected. Therefore, if the measurement results from Engine Oil Pressure Control Check all indicate oil pressure values which are high, it can be determined that there is an electrical malfunction.

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OIL PRESSURE SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY - ECM)


    1. Disconnect the B65 oil pressure switching valve assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the B104 ECM connector (for LHD).

    3. Disconnect the B103 ECM connector (for RHD).

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B65-2 - Body ground* Always 10 kΩ or higher

      *: Make sure that there are no short circuits to +B.

      24.5 kPa or higher.

  13. REPAIR OR REPLACE OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY (OIL PUMP DRIVE AND DRIVEN ROTOR)


    1. Repair or replace the oil pump assembly (oil pump drive and driven rotor).

      Tech Tips

      If the oil pressure does not rise after disconnecting the connector of the oil pressure switching valve assembly, or if the oil pressure changes, but the difference between the low oil pressure and high oil pressure is small, a mechanical malfunction is probably the cause.


      • The sleeve is locked due to foreign matter.

      • The oil pressure relief valve is stuck due to foreign matter.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Start the engine and warm it up.

    6. Compare the "valve off" (high pressure control mode) and "valve on" (low pressure control mode) oil pressure values and check that the oil pressure has risen.
