SFI SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P2101, P2102, P2103, P2111, P2118

DTC Code DTC Name
P2101 Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit Range/Performance
P2102 Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit Low
P2103 Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit High
P2111 Throttle Actuator Control System - Stuck Open
P2118 Throttle Actuator Control Motor Current Range / Performance

DESCRIPTION

The throttle actuator is operated by the ECM, and opens and closes the throttle valve using gears. The opening angle of the throttle valve is detected by the throttle position sensor, which is mounted on the throttle body assembly. The throttle position sensor provides feedback to the ECM in order that it can control the throttle actuator, and therefore the throttle valve, appropriately in response to driver inputs.

Tech Tips

This ETCS (Electronic Throttle Control System) does not use a throttle cable.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P2101 The driving IC detects a malfunction inside itself during operation (1 trip detection logic). ECM
P2102 The driving IC detects a open in the throttle control motor circuit during operation (1 trip detection logic).
  • Open in throttle control motor circuit

  • Throttle body with motor assembly

P2103 The driving IC detects a short in the throttle control motor circuit during operation (1 trip detection logic).
  • Short in throttle control motor circuit

  • Throttle body with motor assembly

P2111

Either of following conditions is met: (1 trip detection logic)

  • When the absolute values for difference between the target throttle angle and actual throttle angle is more than threshold for 0.5 seconds or more.

  • The motor drive duty ratio for opening or closing the throttle valve is 80% or more for 5 seconds or more.

  • Open or short in throttle control motor circuit

  • Throttle body with motor assembly

P2118 The driving IC detects a high-current malfunction causing overheat in the throttle control motor circuit during operation (1 trip detection logic). Throttle body with motor assembly

Tech Tips

The monitor always runs while the ignition switch is ON or the engine is running.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK FOR DTC

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    5. Read DTCs.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY)

    1. Disconnect the B29 throttle body with motor assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the B97 ECM connector (for LHD).

    3. Disconnect the B101 ECM connector (for RHD).

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  3. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY (VISUALLY CHECK THROTTLE VALVE)

    1. Remove the throttle body with motor assembly Click here.

    2. Check for contamination between the throttle valve and housing. If necessary, clean the throttle body with motor assembly. Also, check that the throttle valve moves smoothly.

      OK
Throttle valve is not contaminated with foreign objects and moves smoothly.
