SPIRAL CABLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    Note


    • Do not remove the steering sensor from the spiral cable sub-assembly when inspecting the spiral cable sub-assembly.


    • Remove the steering sensor from the spiral cable sub-assembly only when replacing the spiral cable sub-assembly.


    1. Visually check the spiral cable sub-assembly for defects.


      1. The defects are as follows:


        • Scratches

        • Small cracks

        • Dents

        • Chips

        • Cracks or other damage to the connector

          OK
          No defects are found.

        If any defects are found, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly with a new one.

    2. Check the spiral cable sub-assembly.

      Note


      • When rotating the spiral cable sub-assembly, make sure to push on the interlock shown in the illustration to release the interlock mechanism.

      • As the spiral cable sub-assembly may break, do not rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly more than the specified amount.


      1. Set the spiral cable sub-assembly to the center position.

      2. Measure the resistance between each terminal of the spiral cable sub-assembly according to the value (s) in the table below.


        • Inspect the SRS airbag circuit.

          Standard Resistance

          G26-1 (D+) - z3-2 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G26-2 (D-) - z3-1 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G26-3 (D2-) - z4-1 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G26-4 (D2+) - z4-2 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the horn circuit.

          Standard Resistance

          G27-7 (HO) - A Always 3 Ω or less
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the steering pad switch circuit.

          G27-10 (+DP2) -z6-4 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-11 (+DP) -z6-5 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-12 (AU1) -z6-3 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-14 (IL+2) - z6-1 Always 3 Ω or less
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the cruise control circuit.

          G27-6 (DIST) -z6-8 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-13 (CCS) -z6-2 Always 3 Ω or less
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the transmission control switch circuit.

          Standard Resistance

          G27-1 (SDN) - z5-4 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-2 (ECC) - z5-3 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-8 (SUP) - z5-2 Always 3 Ω or less
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the steering heater circuit.

          Standard Resistance

          G28-2 (EHT) - z7-1 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G28-3 (LIN) - z7-3 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G28-4 (BHT) - z7-4 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the steering vibration circuit.

          Standard Resistance

          G28-1 (LDA) - z7-1 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G28-2 (EHT) - z7-1 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G28-4 (BHT) - z7-4 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
      3. After setting the spiral cable sub-assembly to the center position, rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly 2.5 times clockwise, and measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below. Then rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly 5 times counterclockwise, and measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.


        • Inspect the SRS airbag circuit.

          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the steering pad switch circuit.

          G27-10 (+DP2) -z6-4 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-11 (+DP) -z6-5 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-12 (AU1) -z6-3 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-14 (IL+2) - z6-1 Always 3 Ω or less
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the cruise control circuit.

          G27-6 (DIST) -z6-8 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-13 (CCS) -z6-2 Always 3 Ω or less
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the transmission control switch circuit.

          G27-1 (SDN) - z5-4 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-2 (ECC) - z5-3 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-8 (SUP) - z5-2 Always 3 Ω or less
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the steering heater circuit.

          Standard Resistance

          G28-2 (EHT) - z7-1 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G28-3 (LIN) - z7-3 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G28-4 (BHT) - z7-4 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the steering vibration circuit.

          Standard Resistance
          Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
          G28-1 (LDA) - z7-2 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G28-2 (EHT) - z7-1 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G28-4 (BHT) - z7-4 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
      4. After setting the spiral cable sub-assembly to the center position, rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly 2.5 times clockwise. Then while rotating the spiral cable sub-assembly 5 times counterclockwise, measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.


        • Inspect the SRS airbag circuit.

          G26-3 (D2-) - z4-1 Always Below 1.3 Ω

          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the steering pad switch circuit.

          G27-4 (EAU) -z6-10 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-5 (AU2) - z6-9 Always 3 Ω or less

          G27-10 (+DP2) -z6-4 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-11 (+DP) -z6-5 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-12 (AU1) -z6-3 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-14 (IL+2) - z6-1 Always 3 Ω or less
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the cruise control circuit.

          G27-6 (DIST) -z6-8 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-13 (CCS) -z6-2 Always 3 Ω or less
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the transmission control switch circuit.

          G27-1 (SDN) - z5-4 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-2 (ECC) - z5-3 Always 3 Ω or less
          G27-8 (SUP) - z5-2 Always 3 Ω or less
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the steering heater circuit.

          Standard Resistance

          G28-3 (LIN) - z7-3 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          G28-4 (BHT) - z7-4 Always Below 1.3 Ω
          If the result is not as specified, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly.
        • Inspect the steering vibration circuit.

          Standard Resistance
