Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  • The following procedure is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE

      B004VGX High Temperature Grease

      Apply high temperature grease to the areas of the parking brake plate which make contact with the shoe as shown in the illustration.

  2. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE ANCHOR BLOCK SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the parking brake anchor block sub-assembly and cable support bracket with the 2 nuts.

      Torque:
      75.5 N*m  { 770 kgf*cm, 56 ft.*lbf }
    2. Install the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

  3. CONNECT PARKING BRAKE CABLE


    1. Connect the parking brake actuator assembly with bracket with the nut.

      Torque:
      8.0 N*m  { 82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf }
  4. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

      Connect the parking brake cable to the parking brake shoe lever sub-assembly LH.

      *B for RH Side
      *1 Parking Brake Anchor Block Sub-assembly
      *a Pin
      B004UK4 High Temperature Grease

      Apply high temperature grease to the areas of the parking brake anchor block sub-assembly which make contact with the parking brake shoe lever sub-assembly LH.

      Note

      Check that the parking brake shoe lever sub-assembly is installed so that the pin is positioned as shown in the illustration.

      Check that the parking brake inner cable and parking brake shoe lever sub-assembly LH are securely connected by trying to pull them apart.

  5. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH


    1. B004XH6N02

      Using SST, install the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly LH with the parking brake shoe hold down spring cup, parking brake shoe hold down compression spring and parking brake shoe hold down spring pin.

  6. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH

      Using SST, install the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly LH with the parking brake shoe hold down spring cup, parking brake shoe hold down compression spring and parking brake shoe hold down spring pin.

  7. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET

      B004VGX High Temperature Grease

      Apply high temperature grease to the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set as shown in the illustration.

      Install the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set to the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly LH and No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly LH.

      Note

      Because the left and right parking brake shoe adjusting screw set are not interchangeable, verify the part number when installing the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.

  8. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING (for Front Side)

      Using SST, install the parking brake shoe return tension spring.

  9. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING (for Rear Side)

      Using SST, install the parking brake shoe return tension spring.

  10. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION


    1. Check that each part is installed properly.

      Note

      There should be no oil or grease on the friction surfaces of the shoe linings or discs.

  11. INSTALL REAR DISC LH

  12. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG

  13. CONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH

  14. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE

  15. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

    Click here

  16. CHECK PARKING BRAKE CABLE INSTALLATION

      *b Shaft Boot
      *c Parking Brake Cable

      With the vehicle on the ground, check that the gap between the parking brake cable and drive shaft, and the gap between the parking brake cable and shaft boot are 10 mm (0.394 in.) or more.

      Tech Tips

      Make sure that the cable is not twisted.
