DESCRIPTION

The shift position indicator (P, R, N, D, M) ON (indicator illuminates (shift state in park (P), reverse (R), neutral (N), drive (D) or manual (M)) or OFF (indicator goes off (shift state not in park (P), reverse (R), neutral (N), drive (D) or manual (M)) is displayed.

The shift position indicator goes off when a system malfunction occurs (not in all cases) and a warning message will also be displayed on the multi-information display.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note:

The vehicle is equipped with a sub-battery. Therefore, ensure there is no power being supplied to the vehicle when disconnecting or reconnecting the connector of the shift control ECU and when removing or installing the shift control ECU.

PROCEDURE


  1. Click here

    CHECK SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR (INDICATOR STATUS)


    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    2. With the brake pedal depressed, slowly move the shift lever as follows: N → R → N → D → M →Home to check the condition of the indicators.

    3. Operate the P position switch (shift position indicator) and check the condition of the indicator.

      Result
      Condition of Indicators Proceed to
      Shift position indicator (P, R, N, D or M) does not go off. (Remains on) A
      Any shift position indicator does not illuminate (P, R, N, D or M) B
      No shift position indicators illuminate (P, R, N, D and M)
    4. Turn the power switch off.

    CHECK SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR (CHECK ILLUMINATION)


    1. Disconnect the G82 shift control ECU connector.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Inspect the shift position indicators condition.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
      Shift position indicator (P, R, N, D or M) illuminates A
      Shift position indicator (P, R, N, D and M) goes off. B
      Note:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the shift control ECU connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    4. Turn the power switch off.

    5. Reconnect the G82 shift control ECU connector.

    CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHIFT CONTROL ECU - SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR)


    1. Disconnect the G82 shift control ECU connector.

    2. Disconnect the G46 shift position indicator connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G82-12(INDP) or G46-6(P) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      G82-16(INDR) or G46-7(R) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      G82-15(INDN) or G46-2(N) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      G82-14(INDD) or G46-8(D) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      G82-13(INDM) or G46-3(M) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the G46 shift position indicator connector.

    5. Reconnect the G82 shift control ECU connector.

      Result
      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT)


    1. Disconnect the G46 shift position indicator connector.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      G46-5(PWR) - G46-13(E) Power switch on (IG) 9 to 14 V
      Note:

      Turning the engine switch on (IG) with the connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    4. Turn the power switch off.

    5. Reconnect the G46 shift position indicator connector.

      Result
      Proceed to

    INSPECT SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR

      Disconnect the G46 shift position indicator connector.

    2. Apply battery voltage between the terminals specified in the table below and check the indicator.

    3. Reconnect the G46 shift position indicator connector.

    1. Disconnect the G82 shift control ECU connector.

    2. Disconnect the G46 shift position indicator connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G82-12 (INDP) - G46-6 (P) Always Below 1 Ω
      G82-16 (INDR) - G46-7 (R) Always Below 1 Ω
      G82-15 (INDN) - G46-2 (N) Always Below 1 Ω
      G82-14 (INDD) - G46-8 (D) Always Below 1 Ω
      G82-13 (INDM) - G46-3 (M) Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the G46 shift position indicator connector.

    5. Reconnect the G82 shift control ECU connector.
