FRONT RADAR SENSOR SYSTEM(for Stereo Camera Type) PRECAUTION

  1. FEATURES OF MILLIMETER WAVE RADAR SENSOR ASSEMBLY

    1. The millimeter wave radar sensor may not be able to reliably detect the following objects.

      • Pylons made from plastic etc., glass surfaces such as entrances to convenience stores, low to the ground objects such as curbs, etc.

      • Persons or objects laying down

      • Pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, standing trees, animals, walls, etc.

    2. The millimeter wave radar sensor may not able to detect obstacles or accurately measure the distance, angle or speed of obstacles in the following conditions.

      • When the preceding vehicle or vehicles travelling in another lane is splashing water or snow off the road

      • When the rear end of the preceding vehicle is small (such as when towing an empty trailer)

      • When the posture of the vehicle has changed greatly due to vehicle remodeling or overloading

      • When raindrops or snow is stuck on the front of the sensor or on the front and back of the special cover on the front grille

      • During bad weather (rain, fog, snow, sandstorms, etc.)

      • When the front grille and special cover has been subjected to a strong impact

      • When the dedicated cover on the front grille is distorted as a result of an impact, or the installation condition of the radar sensor changes

      • When a vehicle cuts in front near the vehicle being driven, or when a two-wheeled vehicle is being driven close by

    3. The sensor may also detect high-up signs, structures such as traffic lights, ceilings of tunnels, steel plates on the road, high bridges, bridge seams, manholes, cat's eyes, gutters, bottles, cans, etc.

    4. The sensor may mistakenly detect vehicles driving around curves nearby and vehicles driving in the distance as though they are driving in the same lane as user's vehicle.

    5. The sensor may make misdetections or fail to detect while driving in environments where there are many reflective objects around, such as in tunnels.

    6. The following objects may hinder the sensor's ability to recognize obstacles. Therefore, always make sure that the special cover on the front grille and the front of the sensor is kept clean.

      • Dirt such as mud, insects, oil etc.

      • Snow

      • Metal film (aluminum foil, candy wrappers that use metallic coating, etc.)

      • Coating, paint or seals stuck on the bull bar or special cover

  2. HANDLING PRECAUTIONS FOR MILLIMETER WAVE RADAR SENSOR ASSEMBLY

    1. The millimeter wave radar sensor dirt detection function

      • The millimeter wave radar sensor can automatically detect dirt on the sensor face or the front or back surface of the front emblem, however, dirt may not always be detected.

      • The dirt detection function may not operate if a metal object or plastic sheet with metal coating is attached to the sensor or the front emblem.

      • The dirt detection function may not operate if there is snow or ice on the sensor or the front emblem.

    2. Keep the sensor face and the front and back surfaces of the front emblem clean.

    3. Do not apply excessive force to the millimeter wave radar sensor assembly or subject it to a strong impact.

    4. Do not disassemble the millimeter wave radar sensor assembly.

    5. Do not reuse a millimeter wave radar sensor assembly that has been dropped or subjected to a strong impact.

    6. Do not modify, paint or replace the special cover of front grille and the parts that the sensor is attached to.

    7. Do not apply excessive force to the special cover or subject it to a strong impact.

    8. Keep the surface of the special cover clean.

    9. Do not modify or remodel the vehicle to change the vehicle height and posture.

    10. Do not remove the label attached to the parts.

  3. PRECAUTION FOR REPLACING MILLIMETER WAVE RADAR SENSOR ASSEMBLY

    1. When replacing the millimeter wave radar sensor assembly, always replace it with a new one. If a millimeter wave radar sensor assembly which was installed to another vehicle is used, the information stored in the millimeter wave radar sensor assembly will not match the information from the vehicle. As a result, a DTC may be stored.

    2. When the millimeter wave radar sensor assembly is replaced with a new one, adjustment of the radar sensor beam axis must be performed.
