    DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

    CAUTION:

Do not remove the reserve tank cap, radiator cap sub-assembly or radiator drain cock plug while the engine and radiator assembly are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. B004WN2C01
      *a Hose

Connect a hose with an inside diameter of 9 mm (0.354 in.) to the radiator drain cock as shown in the illustration.

    2. B004X57C01
      *a Hose

Connect a hose with an inside diameter of 8 mm (0.315 in.) to the cylinder block water drain cock plug as shown in the illustration.

    3. B004T2IC01
*1 Radiator Drain Cock Plug *2 Radiator Cap Sub-assembly
*3 Radiator Reserve Tank Assembly *4 Reserve Tank Cap
*5 Cylinder Block Water Drain Cock Plug *6 No. 1 Radiator Hose
      *7 No. 3 Radiator Hose - -

Loosen the radiator drain cock plug.

    4. Remove the reserve tank cap. Then drain the engine coolant.

      Tip:

Collect the engine coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.

    5. Loosen the cylinder block drain cock plug.

    6. Tighten the cylinder block drain cock plug.

    7. Tighten the radiator drain cock plug by hand.

    8. Disconnect the hose from the cylinder block water drain cock plug.

    9. Disconnect the hose from the radiator drain cock.

    ADD ENGINE COOLANT

    1. Slowly fill the radiator assembly with engine coolant.

      Specified Capacity
      Item Specified Condition
w/o Engine Oil Cooler 11.0 liters (11.6 US qts, 9.7 Imp. qts)
w/ Engine Oil Cooler 11.4 liters (12.0 US qts, 10.0 Imp. qts)
      Specified Capacity
10.9 liters (11.5 US qts, 9.6 Imp. qts)
      Note:

Do not substitute plain water for engine coolant.

      Tip:

LEXUS vehicles are filled with TOYOTA SLLC at the factory. In order to avoid damaging the engine cooling system and other technical problems, only use TOYOTA SLLC or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology (coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology is a combination of low phosphates and organic acids).

    2. Remove the reserve tank cap and radiator cap sub-assembly.

    3. B004VXC

Pour coolant of the specified concentration into the engine side filler hole until it reaches the filler opening of the radiator reserve tank assembly, and install the reserve tank cap.

    4. Pour coolant of the specified concentration into the engine side filler hole until full, and install the radiator cap sub-assembly.

    5. Add engine coolant to the coolant filler opening and install the radiator cap sub-assembly.

    6. Squeeze the No. 1 radiator hose and No. 3 radiator hose several times by hand, and then check the level of the engine coolant.

If the engine coolant level is low, add engine coolant.

    7. Put the engine in inspection mode (2WD for measuring exhaust gas).

    8. Warm up the engine until the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly opens. While the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly is open, circulate the engine coolant for several minutes.[*1]

      CAUTION:

      • Wear protective gloves. Hot areas on the parts may injure hands.

      • Keep your hands away from the fan.

      • Be careful as the engine, radiator assembly, No. 1 radiator hose, and No. 3 radiator hose are hot and can cause burns.

      Note:
      • Make sure that the radiator reserve tank assembly still has some engine coolant in it.

      • If the radiator reserve tank assembly does not have enough engine coolant, perform the following stop the engine, wait until the engine coolant has cooled down, and add engine coolant until the radiator reserve tank assembly is filled to the F line.

      • If there is not engine coolant, the engine may overheat or be seriously damaged.

      • If the coolant temperature gauge indicates an excessive temperature, turn off the engine and let it cool.

      Tip:
      • Press the No. 1 radiator hose and No. 3 radiator hose several times by hand to bleed air while warming up the engine.

      • The water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly open timing can be confirmed squeeze the No. 3 radiator hose by hand, and sensing vibrations when the engine coolant starts to flow inside the No. 3 radiator hose.

    9. Stop the engine, and wait until the engine coolant cools down.[*2]

    10. Check that the engine coolant level is between the F and L line.[*3]

If the engine coolant level is below the L line, Pour engine coolant to the radiator reserve tank assembly until it reaches the F line, and repeat procedure from steps .[*1] to .[*3].

If the engine coolant level is above the F line, drain engine coolant so that the engine coolant level is between the F and L line.
